I was told that it would improve the air intake enough to make about 7-8 HP at the rear wheels. $100/8 hp seemed like a good bang fro the buck. It appreared to be one of the cheapest ,easiest thing to do. As for mods, mine is totally stock except for Eurocharged Performance ECU tune. It will soon have K&N filters on it to, which I'm told will get me over 200 RWHP, it's at 195RWHP now. This whole thing was very unfortunate especially for robjob941. I used to be a pretty good mechanic, worked on cars from the time I was about 9 years old. Rebuilt a few engines, restored a couple of cars, etc. I was a medical and industirial electronic repair guy for about 25years, and sold and installed the equipment like is used in chemical, refinery, pipeline, and power plants for the last 30 years or so. I know what you mean about capabilities, my biggest problem is eye site. It is just hard to see things that are small and have to fit properly. I just stay away from that if I can or get someone that can see better than me. I take no offense at your questions. I still have to ask sometimes if it is plugged in, you'd be surprised at some of the answers. I just hate it that someone that asked for help didn't get what he needed. Off the soap box,I'm done.

I am not sure where you got this info, but a tune and K&N filters will not get you anywhere near 200WHP unless the tunes have changed a LOT since mine has been done. I have several friends that have put THOUSANDS into DCAI, tune, injectors, TB, spacers, exhaust, etc and do not have 195WHP (proven on a dyno). I had an exhaust, dual intake, tune, etc on the last car and I was not at 195.

The car DYNO'd 195RWHP at Eurocharged Performance, I posted the chart along with thumb nail pics of the event. Jerry thought it would break 200RWHP with the K&N filters.

Are you guys so heavily modded that you require changing out the TB? That would be one of the last thing I would attempt, and to my knowledge, no one has produced any evidence that it actually increases power. There are quite a few mods that are dyno proven to give results and have detailed install instructions.

The other thing to consider, and again, I am not trying to knock anyone, it is all relative. What one person thinks is easy may be nearly impossible for another. Some people on here could take apart the motor and reassemble it in the dark, while others can not even change a headlight bulb.....
check out forum member paul supertis website he has the TB dyno,d...it adds a signifigant amount of HP definitley a respectable Mod

I, also, blame no-one. My understanding was also that there was just a modest swapping of electronics to get it to work. There is nothing swappable in them that i can see. The housings are COMPLETELY different, the motors are different sized, the gears are different ratios, and the covers are different shaped, and the connectors are in-compatible with shape and mounting. But at least we know differnt now, and it didn't cost a whole lot to learn (robjob941 excluded ).

I am going to keep an eye out for the 125 at a good price and get one on there.

Dave, I apologize, as you are certainly one of the lucky ones. Usually XFs are not that strong with just a tune, but some baseline dynos I have seen vary as much as ~20WHP (of course there are variances for the type of dyno as well). Screw the K&Ns and make yourself a DCAI. You will be amazed at the gains from that and will certainly be over 200 at the wheel, very impressive for a slightly modded XF

BoilerUpXfire,

No problem, The car has always been strong, but it really came alive with the tune, like driving two different cars. I'm putting K&N on it as I won them, but I have been eyeing moding the CAI that is on it by improving the opening where it comes throgh the bulkhead up behind the grill. Fun car to drive, love it. Thanks for comments and advise.

@ onehundred80 Just wondering if you had it installed.

I got one off ebay for $100 and installed it yesterday. The install was fairly easy if you can get those damn wire clips off(maf wire and throttle body wire). Did the throttle reset and started the car, it didn't sputter or anything like that. The rpm was higher than normal before it dropped to normal idle rpm. Took it for a short drive down the residential street haven't been on the highway yet, it gave it a little bit more of a kick in the 2500-3500 range. It also seemed to amplify the lag in throttle response. I'll have to drive it more to fully notice the difference. My XF is stock, this is my first mechanical mod. Time for a sprint booster or cai, when I get enough funds.

If anyone is looking for one, here is a list of Mercedes that should have this throttle body A1131410125. Always verify the part numbers with the seller. I had to when I got my throttle body off of ebay. It was listed as 03 clk500 throttle body with no mercedes/bosch part number or pictures.

Might make a picture tutorial if there is enough request for it.
I have started to do it, but gave up yesterday when the breather hose to the MAF elbow was hard to get off, the rubber is cold and hard, thought I may have to put a heat gun to it to soften the rubber. The MAF sensor connector came off OK, but that's as far as I got, my back is hurting and leaning over the car made it worse.
Did you have to replace any gaskets or anything?
I can see the other hose being the same problem.

I did not have to replace the o-ring/gasket for the throttle body, just reused the old one has about 50,000 miles on the car. I had to use a plastic prying tool to get that hose off. I grabbed the hose and pull out/downward until there was enough room to put the pry tool in it, then while prying and pulling the hose out/upwards it came out. I dont know what the other hose is for but on that one you have to push the hose in and press/hold the button and pull it out. The hose that is on top of the TB actually came off easily.

Took me probably 10mins to just get that maf connector off. Had to use a small screwdriver to remove the connector off the throttle body.

Attached pic of pry tool and old throttle body.

The MAF connector came off easily, I just pinched the two clips together and it came off.
The old throttle body shows how an oil catch can would save some mess.

I don't get why there would be a lag in throttle response, it should be the other way around. Usually a bigger throttle body will give you more response, but a loss of response as you get more into the pedal. It would be a larger flow area, so a smaller amount of pedal travel would mean more air entering the engine leading to a higher MAP value. Once the MAP value reaches atmospheric pressure, opening the throttle plate more shouldn't do anything. Honestly, you should expect a 1-5 HP gain if anything.. the difference should be in the response.

I have acquired another 74mmTB, this time it has the correct connector on it. I need to polish it up some, will try to install in the next few evenings. I'm going to try and install my SRT6 rotors and calipers too + new SS braided lines. Painted the calipers red, look good. It kind of depends on how much time I have.
I would think the lag you talked about is a computer learning curve. It will get better the more you drive it. I'm going to install the TB and let Eurocharged take a look at it and see what Jerry thinks about the performance.

I'm guessing the lag I'm feeling has something to do with a bad spark plug wire.

I think the 74mm TB got rid of the rotten egg smell, but then again I have to get that spark plug wire replaced and drive it some more.

Attached is a pdf tutorial for the 74mm TB Upgrade. If there are question or mistakes, let me know, I'm too lazy to read over my own tutorial.

EDIT: PDF relocated at https://www.crossfireforum.org/forum...tml#post575210

That's really good, make a new thread and it will become a sticky instead of leaving it buried.

Hey, do you know the gasket number on the 74mm TB to the intake off the top of your head? I took it back off and looked at it, looks like it had RTV sealent on it. May not seal good over long period of time. Where do you think I could find one, MB dealer?? It's ok for now, but I think I will replace it.
