Found a great climate and humidity controlled place to store my XF and Bug. This place is just five minutes from my house. It's a small company that has access space in their warehouse. One of the owner's is a car guy, and decided to rent space for RVs and cars for the winter. The place is super clean, and very reasonable.

No more mice...

Just out of curiosity, what does that kind of storage cost, FP?

John! You're a genius!!

I've often thought there should be an easy way to wash a car's underside, never thought about one of those old time garden sprinklers.

I wouldn't agree with the genius part, but I have gathered my fair share of car detailing tricks over the years

Walmart makes a great, cheap, flat one that has adjustable pressure for very cheap, but if you live somewhere with a cold winter, make sure to buy it now or you will have to order online since they are highly seasonal....

The sprinklers have been replaced with snow shovels and fake Christmas trees up here. LOL

I'm paying $150/mo. for both cars. I took both in yesterday. They have been tucked in for the winter.

I store the Harley in a heated place for 5 months out of the year. Just costs me $125. The cars get my garage which I keep at 55. I have a garage heater in case I want to do some work out there, so we can bump it up from time to time. Johnny is right about driving your car in and out of heated garages in the winter. Since leaving the other 3 drivers outside all winter, there isn't a rust problem at all as long as you find yourself a place that not only washes the outside but sprays the underside as well. We have a touchless car wash nearby that does just that, and I have access to our truck wash bay for doing it myself. Both cars and the bike have battery tenders. I put gas additive in the bike as it won't be fired that often. I use to fog the bike when it was cold storage, but not for heated. I don't use additive in the XF's because I have to move them and drive them when I can. No flat spotted tires, and no moisture build up if you can at least warm them up, and drive them for a few miles when the roads are clear.

Al I use to do that with a '92 Z-28 until I realized the exhaust was rusting from just starting it, and never driving it. The cats actually clogged the exhaust from rust. After that, I got it out and drove the thing. Sitting just isn't good, I now think you need to drive them when you can.

We also have winter problems here in "Americas Finest City". Today it is 80 degrees with bright sun shine. That means I have to look for a nice shady spot to wash the XF. I hate it when the sun causes water spots before you can get it dried.

100% AGREE with Doc.
Plenty of days in the winter when the sun is out , the roads are dry and free of salt dust.
The longest mine sat in my heated garage was 21 days here in Chi-town.
Heck it's almost December and I'm still driving it.

Once the salt has been on the road my car stays in the garage and it does not come out until a few good rains have washed the roads of the salt dust.

Cars left in warm garages with salt on them suffer worse than cars in cold garages with salt on them. Even dry cars with a salt on them suffer as salt attracts moisture from the air. Colder air holds less moisture and so the salt can attract less of it.

Underground parking lots are the worst environments to park a car in winter, high humidity from the snow and salt on the car makes for a great setting for rust to start and continue. Daily drivers in winter up in the north take a beating, unfortunately it's a no win situation.

Exactly why my baby starts it's long slumber on Oct 31st of each year then not out till the heavy spring rains wash away the winter's wrath to keep the underside of my car looking like the day it rolled off the line....... well almost.

Well, I agree with Doc if you start your car in the winter and just let it run a bit, but if you disconnect the battery and let it sit until its time to bring it out in the spring you should be OK.
I suspend the insurance on my car once I put it in storage, so calling to re-activate it every I've you want to take it out in the winter is not worth the effort for me.

Living in the artic can be a b1tch at times.

Mine's still on the road and it goes into hibernation when I see the salt trucks on the road. No snow yet here and the palm trees show no signs of loosing their leaves.

We've been salted and sanded here a couple times already. Oh and my coconuts have already been frozen a couple times as well.

I do the same, FP, mine is hooked to a battery tender, insurance on vacation, and, once a month or so I start her up for a short time, to circulate the oil.

I keep mine close by me as I work in my shop. They are under cover. Either Carport or garage plus Waxoyl. No UV or oxygen gets to them. Batteries have floating charger attached.PT Cruiser used after first salt.
