Crossfire buyers guide?
Crossfire buyers guide?
Hello everyone, my gf is currently looking into buying a crossfire and I was wondering if there is anything in particular that we should keep an eye out for before purchasing one. Are there also any known common maintenance issues that she would possibly run into. We are trying to get something with lower mileage and how is the reliability on the car once you start to rack up some miles. I understand the car is half german so would paying for something to get fixed be on par with a merc? Thanks for the help
Re: Crossfire buyers guide?
Parts are usually more expensive than mercedes, and good labor is hard to find. A lot of Benz dealerships wont work on them, and very few Chrysler dealers have Crossfire certified techs. Also check
1)leaky trans seal causing low fluid level
2)seat heaters not working
3)condensation in headlights
4)broken cupholder

Re: Crossfire buyers guide?
The car is more like 95%+ MB... it is a great little car. VERY reliable and the maintenance, in general, is just getting the regular 7000 miles oil changes and fluids/filters checked.
If you have a Chrysler dealer do the work you will pay more and may not get what you think.... they know VERY little about this car as they seldom see them... as mentioned, MB dealers in your area likely will not work on them.... find a good independent shop that you like that does MB cars... or do the regular maintenance yourself if you have the ability.... there is lots of help here if you have any questions...
Go find a nice one and join the fun club!!

The Crossfires I've seen seem to have been very well kept. The buyer demographic not being your typical drive it into the ground crowd. Lucky us!

I paid 25K for mine new 5+ years ago for a base coupe. That was a great deal at the time (2005) before they started giving them away. I don't regret it. The car is worth every penny. But I don't want to hear complaints from people that say they paid too much Heck... I shouldn't even complain There are people here I am sure that paid 30+K for theirs.
As for problems.... headliner will fall. 140 dollar fix so no big deal. Make sure AC is working properly when on and blower speed is operating normal in each position. Turn it on and off a few times. Check to make sure head lights are not foggy. Check to make sure the ignition key turns easily and is not sticky. Everything else mentioned is true (heated seats.... etc).

I over pay for most things because I'm an impulse buyer, but I tend to keep them in good shape so I re-coup a little on the sell. But don't feel bad, I once bought a 2001 Eclipse GT right from the showroom for $24,999. DOH!
