Re: New Uncut Remote Key
i saw these when i was looking for a second key for my 2004. after taking it to get it cut, and then to the dealer to be programmed it was going to be more then just ordering the key and having the dealer program it. just go to a dealer, mine was $212 total, key and programming.

Re: New Uncut Remote Key
The keys have to be laser cut specifically for your VIN, and dealers cannot do that. The programming instructions take 2 minutes and are available on the forum. I was able to order keys from my Chrysler dealers for about $140/each. It made me worry that if someone took the VIN off the windshield tag, could they just walk in to one of these parts desk morons and get a key to my car (since the dealer did not grill me on ownership and just wrote down the VIN I gave to them).

This thread, if I understand what I read, shows how to program the key yourself:

As I see it and I really do not know the real facts is that what you purchase is a key cut to the profile that fits your tumbler and in the fob is a chip that has data in it that matches the data in your cars security system. All this information is on record for the cars VIN.
The key as purchased will open the doors but will not start the car. The final stage is to match the cars security system and the new chip via the halo ring on the ignition switch.
Rudy could explain it better and I hope he will jump in and add the definitive post on this subject.
The keys are not laser cut as that would take too long, they are machined on a small end mill type of machine as you can see the cutter marks.
If anyone says they are laser cut they are just trying to make it sound high tech and trying to justify the cost, in other words it's BS.

Re: New Uncut Remote Key
Mine only came with one key and the remote portion didn't function. I went to the local Chrysler dealer and asked for another key and remote, he advised me of the key routine and asked if the car was outside he'd need to check the VIN.
About five days later the key was ready and available at the dealer and I would be about $230 (including tax) less in my wallet.
