My '04 limited has been in the shop for 41 DAYS!!! AND COUNTING
Ok...I have brought my 2004 limited crossfire in several times for transmission issues. My car was making a grinding sound and having trouble shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear. When in first gear (autoshift mode) and slowing at a stoplight or stop sign the car would jerk like it was a manual tranny but it is a automatic followed by the car stalling. When accelerating the car had trouble getting into gear and would vibrate severely and make a horrible grinding sound. When I start the car there was an electrical current sound on the passenger side under the glove box. I told my service advisor at the chrysler dealership everything stated above and they said that they could not replicate any of them and changed the rear differential fluid and air filters...charged me $418.00 and said that would fix the problem. GUESS WHAT IT DIDN'T WORK. I returned the following day and had two different mechanics (one being the shop foreman) ride with me while I explained to them the issues and they were clueless. That was on September 1, 2010. Today is now October 11th and they still haven't fixed the problem!!! They pulled the entire tranny out and replaced the torque converter (WHICH WAS WHAT THEY SAID WAS CAUSING THE PROBLEMS!?!?!) and that didn't work. The then said that it was the transmission module so they replaced that and still couldn't get the car to run right. Now 41 days later they are telling me that it is a wiring issue and because the crossfires are so complex to work on it will be at least another week before they find the faulty wire and then a couple of day to get the replacement part in and replace it. The dealership has done nothing for me. No rental car...not even an apology. Has anyone else had any problems like this??? What should I do??? Any feedback will be beneficial.
Also I went to the dealership last monday to get some stuff out of the car and it was sitting in the back lot and was completely filthy. It looked like the car had been sitting out for years not being washed and there were parts on the floor on the passenger side. I returned today and the car was sitting in the same spot even dirtier and my service advisor was off and no one could give me an update.
By the way I am the original owner. The car is 6 years old and only has 31k miles and has not been neglected in any way.

wow sounds like my problem. I had had mine in the shop for 34 days. At least mine was covered by insurance though, but it was the same deal. They ordered one part, then it was the wrong one, and then they needed another, then it still wouldn't take an alignment. Then they figured out that the parts they ordered were broken, so they had to order new parts. It basically became a cycle of Friday: install parts and find something else wrong. Monday: order new parts, wait till they get there on Friday. for 4 weeks! Are crossfires really that tricky to work on? if i were you, I'd find a local mechanic and take it there, perhaps someone who specializes in Mercedes. That sucks though, best of luck!

When I bought my Crossfire I went to the local Chrysler dealer and talked with the service manager. I said I just bought a Crossfire and I wanted to know if they worked on them at their dealership. He was honest and said other than an oil change you'd be better off take'n it elsewhere. He told me that the Crossfire requires a "level 4 mechanic". He told me of a dealer about 20 miles away that had one such mechanic. Since then I've talked with two people that own SLK320's, one an older one, and the other newer. They both recommended the same place that is in Columbus, a 2 hour drive. Looks like thats where I'll be take'n my baby.

Word of advice Powered, be very very selective on which CDJ dealer you take the XF to. Even if they have a "Crossfire tech". I've had people at a CDJ that had never worked on or touched a XF that did a better job with a more complicated task than another dealer that had a "Crossfire Tech". That "XF tech" couldn't even do an oil change correctly.
Check BBB.org before you take it to a dealer and see what their reputation is. Hell, make a report about this one. I would also call Chrysler and complain, explain the situation and that regardless that they don't make this car anymore and that it was built with Mercedes parts, they sold the damn thing and you bought an extended warranty contract for it, so they better fix it. They most likely will see what they can do about getting you a rental. 41 days is ridiculous.
Maybe someone should send the XF service manual to this dealer and make them sit down and read it, every single page.
