clutch won't engage
clutch won't engage
I was driving home last night and on the off ramp my clutch was super super stiff. I only live about a mile away so i coasted her home. Now i can shifts through off of the gears but i cant get any movement. Any advice? Im hoping my clutch is roached, but can only go with the worst right now. thanks
Re: clutch won't engage
Not a lot to go on, but I doubt it's your tranny since you can shift the gears. I would suspect clutch, throw-out or pilot bearing, or linkage. Take it to a shop that specializes in foreign (esp German) car transmissions. If it's any consolation, a failed clutch should not get stiff, but would allow the engine to rev with no corresponding increase in speed.
Re: clutch won't engage
Ya, its kinda hard to explain really. There isnt much resistance on the clutch pedal when i press it to the floor. I can feel a "step" about half way in the travel.I topped off the fluid, but still nothing. I dont see any fluid leaks or puddles so i'm thinking its a linkage or something inside the housing.

Hi Cbccadet2002,
Your clutch issues sound exactly like what Bat experienced earlier this year.
Look in this thread for an explanation, and pictures of the dead parts:

Bat's clutch, when pressed, was really limp, until nearly the very bottom of the travel, when it was practically rock hard, and only about 1/2 an inch of travel.
When trying to actually move the shifter from one gear to the next, it was rock hard, like you were fighting with an arm wrestler in order to get it into the next slot. Reverse was nearly impossible with the engine running.
With the engine off, shifting through the gears was considerably easier, but the clutch action was still screwy.
After the replacement, the clutch and shifter action is better than when she first bought the car.
And remember, all these issues were with just over 9k miles on her car.

Re: clutch won't engage
When i came down the off ramp on the interstate is was extremely tight. So tight you couldnt compress it. I pumped the clutch a few times and it released. It almost reminds me of a pump in an automatic tranmission. Where it wont engage untill the rpms are elevated, But i really dont have the ***** to test that theory. Are there any die springs in the pressure plates? or just the throwout bearing and the clutch fingers?
Re: clutch won't engage
ya for sure. im 27 was a big mopar guy, mainly becuase noone else had them. ran a chevy II with 383. but i love this car. i gave 10k with 73k on it. Any leads on some pretty tough clutches? I really dont want to go back to oem parts. Its amg i know, but would rather spend the extra cash so i can lose my penny loafers and wear my tennis shoes to drive it. lol thanks guys i appreciate it. crossfireforum the best again!! ** one last thing.. are the housing bolts red lock tite in? i thought i read that somewhere.**
