Default Car totaled :(

So, my car was vandalized a month back and with over 10K in damages they are totaling the car out. Completely devastated. With a new paint job and rims they are totaling it. Cant believe that.

Insurance is allowing me to buy it back, but if anyone is interested in buying it for cheap and either fixing it or selling the parts let me know. Have a few days to decide what I'm doing. Dont have the time to sell the parts and I am going to go in another direction.

What are the details of the incident? What did they do and do you know who did it?

Sounds like a waste and sorry to hear that!

The whole exterior of the car was keyed and all 4 rims were spray painted and windshield. It was parked at a friends house not in the greatest of neighborhoods, so could of been a jealously thing or someone had a problem with my friend. This completely sucks and this was the worst case scenerio I was dreading.

Mine has been vandalized 3 times as well. Once the driver's window was smashed, then it was keyed in two different places, then someone knocked the driver's side mirror out. I moved it to a different street and now walk a few blocks so they don't get a chance to do what someone did to yours.

People are ********. Sorry for your loss.

I would definitely recommend buying it back and parting it out. The exterior may be pretty messed up, but there's a whole mess of parts that are still good that people would need. How much are they charging to buy it back?

I'm actually quite shocked they're totaling it for so little. I mean, I know it's a lot and it's very expensive, but it can't be worth more than the car. Are any of the body parts damaged? I know the paint and the glass is, but it can easily be repainted and new glass can be put in. Maybe your insurance company has a policy to total any Crossfire out that's damaged.

They said 5500 on the buy back. No clue why they are totaling it, but it just needs a paint job and new rims. I just dont have the time on parting it out, so like I said if someone is interested in doing so let me know I just have a few days to let the insurance know.

Wow, I am very sorry to hear this.

God insurance seriously only look on the values side. That really sucks.

I would part it out, since Bumpers etc. are needed and can always be re-painted for example....

What year/model is it?

My car was keyed earlier this year, and it was about $6500 paid by the insurance company, including a rental car for 2 weeks. However, that was at a good repair shop which took off every body panel, etc. You could probably get it painted at some cheap place for $500 and then buy some stock rims for $500 or so, and make out well selling the car whole. This is, of course, if you have ~ $7000 to invest in it.

How much are they giving you total (which I assume they'd just reduce by $5500 if you want the car)?

That is super crappy... How much are they totalling it out for?

Messing with someone's car is about the most low-down passive-aggressive pansy way of attacking someone.

Depends on the insurance company, and it's on a case by case basis, but you most commonly see cars totaled when the repairs hit 70-75% of the value of the car. There is nothing surprising about totaling an XFire needing $10,000 in repairs.

Unfortunately the blue book means nothing any more. I guess what they are looking at is the cost of repairs vs the value of the car which is probably, I'm guessing around 9k. Most states then apply a percentage of cost to repair to what the vehicle is worth. 70-75% in my state totals a car. So that is more than likely what is going on. Did you discuss the rims and cost of the new paint job with the adjuster? Make sure you did that. Sorry it happened to you.

It makes me sick to hear these stories. I just got my baby back this weekend after a long stay at the body shop. It was locked in my garage with my Harley when some punks broke in , stole nothing, tipped the Harley over, slashed the tires and seat. Then scratched the paint to the metal on the tank and rear fender. Then they moved on to the X-fire. Slashed all four tires. And scraped most every panel. The bike was liability only. Then there was the $1000.00 deductible between the car and garage. The deductible the body shop claimed I wouldn't have to pay didn't pan out, and the pieces that weren't painted don't quite match. Add the fact that it now has a repaint on it's car fax history. Man have I taken a beating from every crook available lately. So believe me. I feel your pain.

That really sucks. Mine got keyed also in the back part right under the wing. which is good because it is only one small panel to paint. But honestly it was only a matter of time.

I'm not sure what I'd do if it was totalled with just paint damage. The car is still reliable and it can always be repainted. It is when they start smashing things and cutting things that you'd think of just letting it go.

In this particular case I would be asking your son why this happened. He may say he has no idea... but deep down he knows the deal.

Sociopaths, I hate them. The pleasure of inflicting pain in others. If they were keying us it would be called sadism. I think Singapore has the right idea. Cane the bastards. We also have a keyed car in the family. Thank God it's not my Crossfire.

Its was a lonnnnnnng process. State Farm sent their adjuster out 3 weeks ago and they should of totaled the car per their calculations on the spot. Although, they decided to issue my bodyshop a check for the repairs which kept this process going for another week in a half which they had done work to the car. I received a call saying they were totaling it and their was nothing i could do. Unfortunately that adjuster lost their job over it. Then the paper work process was a nightmare. My agent had me sign papers then supposedly i didnt sign in the right spots. Paperwork was sent back in the mail then I had to send it back. Finally today my lien holder was paid off! Thank u jesus!

So sick of this damn Nissan Sentra rental

So, after all this, did you buy it back or is gone? I saw all the posts about this and the comments. I have done probably over a hundred reports of vandalism to cars in my 30 yr career. My own son had his car, vandalized at college, twice, and once in my front yard. I hunted that kid down myself. You don't have to do something in order to be vandalized. So don't blame yourself or your kids. The kids that did my sons at college were a gang, I got nothing, other than they went to jail for awhile, not long enough. The kid that did in my front yard, didn't know I was a cop, he does now. He was after the sterio...broke out the window to get it, and the door was unlocked, dumbass criminals....nice cars, usually have nice things inside of them...nice cars, shiny and all, just asked to touched, and sometimes by jealous, individuals who think you have money, and something they can't have. When asked why you did it, it's always the same answer. I don't know, it was just there...so don't blame yourself...in your case, probably a gang got their kicks bashing your car...and I would expect if you went back to the police, you weren't the only one that got it that night...they usually continue until the paint can runs dry....good luck
