Crossfire vs. 2008 ~ WV GTI
Crossfire vs. 2008 ~ WV GTI
Well, while cruising on this closed course, I ran into a lowered to hell, loud, aftermarket rims, etc. 2008~ WV GTI. He wanted to play by pulling a couple expected ricer flyby and he got what he wanted, i bit. My gas tank was almost at full and i had about 50lbs stuff in the trunk. We took off somewhere around 45-50mph and surprisingly he inched on me a bit. My front bumper was at his pass. side door. I think I was at his blind spot and we stayed there. He couldnt really go any further and I couldnt get next to him. Xfire surprised me by starting to get pretty much rigth next to him at the top of my 4th gear. I let go right then but he continued lol.
He had exhaust that was obvious. I dont know if he had anything else done to it. I am sure he did or else I think I would have pulled on him a bit, and I was powershifitng her so no delay whatsoever in between shifts. Like an automatic vehicle. Their specs are 200hp and 207tq weighing pretty much right where an Xfire weighs.
Thought I would share.

Yeah I would be surprised if the guy wasn't at least running a software tune and intake to go along with the exhaust. Those mods put the GTI, typically, at over 230hp.
The thing with the crossfire is that it's deceptively quick, which is something that most people don't realize. They just think it's a slow POS because it doesn't pull numbers like a mustang or even 370z. But the crossfire does really well for what it is.
I went up against a Civic Si (same hp as a GTI with far less tq) a month or so ago and it was pretty easy to reel the guy in.

Xfires are decently quick rides.

If I simply wanted speed, I would've bought that $4,000 Fox-Body Mustang down the street with the blown 331 stroker. But, I wanted something sleek and classy.
I'll gladly sacrifice a couple tenths for the added rarity, timeless body lines, and F/R drivetrain layout in a tiny, lightweight little Euro car.
Besides, no one has ever asked a V-dub owner "OMG, how much did that thing cost you?"
No matter how "souped up", the GTI simply looks like another low-20's hatchback to the layman. Combine that with the multiple decades of production, and the body will soon become dated.
