Purchased 2004 18,000 miles service what???
Re: Purchased 2004 18000 miles service what???
If you don't know when the oil was last changed, I would certainly do that. The FSS can assist you in knowing when to do subsequent changes. If the air filter looks clean it may have been changed already, otherwise a new one would be wise. Also consider changing the cabin air filter. The brake pads should be easy to check, and unless driven hard should have life left. I don't know how old your battery is, but when the battery starts going bad strange things are known to happen with these cars. It would not be unusual to need new wiper blades.
Lastly, welcome!

Hey Mike welcome to the Family!
As mentioned the FSS will tell you when it's time for an oil change. A lot of folks here change oil before the FSS says to as a special treat to a special car! You will find that an oil change is expensive when compared to other cars.
Brakes get changed early cuz folks get tired of all the dust from the stock pads.
As far as suggestions, I'd say start reading posts here on the forum related to any questions you may have. TONS of info here. Here's a post with ducumentation on the car. Read it for more info than you can retain!

Enjoy the car! (It is Graphite (Grey) I hope.)
"See" ya on the Forum!

Re: Purchased 2004 18000 miles service what???
There are 2 air filters, owner's manual says change at 60,000 miles. I replaced the ones on my 07 at 33,000 & in retrospect should have waited longer....they really weren't that dirty.....maybe because there is about twice the filtering area as most cars I've been used to???
Re: Purchased 2004 18,000 miles service what???
I always do the oil first because if you put 0w-40 in it from now on you know your running the right oil. Who knows what the dealership or the previous owner put in there. Oil filter too, and you can do the air intake filters which don't hurt anything I assume people are going to suggest you get K&N's though and I would suggest that myself.

Re: Purchased 2004 18,000 miles service what???
First, welcome to the Forum Mike.
You didn't say if it was a 5 or a 6 spd. But if it's a 6 spd. some service techs recommend changing the manual transmission fluid from the factory installed ATF to a synthetic motor oil.
As Tigh pointed out, changing over to "Dust free" brake pads is highly recommended. I used Rotex Gold, and didn't change mine until I had 30k miles on my car, and could have kicked myself for not doing it sooner.
Watch out for that automatic "Dimming" rear view mirror, it makes it very easy for a LEO to sneak up behind you at night.
I've found the traction control to be a little more sensitive in my 04 than it seems to be in later models, but that just might be a problem with my car.
If you notice the TC intruding on your "normal" driving there is a way to circumvent the problem, (at least on the 6 speeds). Just PM me for details.
Good Luck with your new 04.
