Default flowmaster exhaust question

Hey there, so i have been searching for several hours, and I've come close on a few posts to finding what i need, but still haven't found the answer I'm looking for. So excuse the forum newbie-ness here

Anyway, i used to have an 89 Saab 900 turbo, and i had put a flowmaster 40 delta series on it. Unbelievable sound, and would turn heads when they realized it was coming from a 4 banger. Sounded like a big block coming down the road but there was virtually no interior drone, which is what i really liked, so long trips weren't obnoxious. I am looking to put one on the crossfire as well, but was trying to find measurements for everything such as the muffler length, size and all that, as well as pipe width, and then whether or not i need offset, center, or dual exhaust and intake ports on the muffler. Like i said I'm getting close and am pretty sure I have it right, but i want to verify on here before i go buying the wrong muffler. I'm not really a fan of the magnaflow, its nice but it sounds a bit too reserved. The stock borla is great sounding between 2-4k rpms, but then almost non existent at idle, and no "burps" when you let off the gas. I miss having the burbling growl when I start up the car that the flowmaster had. So if anyone can either link me to the appropriate post, or post any new info on what specifically i need, I'd appreciate it! oh and "learn how to use the damn search" bashing is totally acceptable if the post was right under my nose

The stock muffler is an offset-to-center-exit design. If you have an exhaust shop cut off your stock muffler, they'll most likely need to custom fit new exhaust pipe to support the replacement muffler either way (as well as add new hangers) so you can change it to center-to-center-exit or however you want to.

I couldn't find muffler specs in the service manual.

Since the muffler is easily accessible from the back of the car I recommend getting a tape measure and measuring it yourself. It will give you the opportunity to see how much clearance there is from the stock size to the heat shield and other body parts.

I've got the Magnaflow cat-back and really like the sound.

Gives a real "sports car" growl but there is some drone in the 1800-2200 rpm range. It's stupid easy to install and well made. However if you want a really low pitched tone the Flowmaster is probably the way to go. I had a V8 '97 Cougar w/ a pair of Flowmasters at the very end of the exhaust and it would set off car alarms whenever i drove through the parking garage. Really deep rumble at idle...which sounds like what you are after!

I know you don't want a Magnflow, but here are specs for the one I used:

MagnaFlow Exhaust Products - For Trucks, Suv's, American Muscle, Diesel, & Sport Compact Vehicles

My muffler guy told me that after he drove my car, the Flowmaster would have been much louder. Personally I think my set-up is too loud for traveling.

Good Luck, James

okay great thanks guys, so the pipe is 2.25"? That was the main thing i was looking for, i think the specs should fit everywhere else, just wanted to make sure i had the right pipe size, and just to see if anyone had ever done it before. Not going for loudness, which is why I'm getting the delta version of the 40, not the actual 40. I just want a nice throaty growl. I appreciate the advice!
