After being on this site for some time now it seems their are some parts you would be wise to pick up, especially if the price is right. Starting with the Crankshaft Position Sensor which I just ordered on-line from autohausAZ for $39.11. This seems to be a part that qualifies for "not if it fails, but when it fails" category. What other "affordable" parts are famous for failing on Crossfires?

We do a lot of out-of-town trips and would prefer to have a small collection of parts on-hand in the car.....just in case.

 

It appears lately that if you can score a cheap fan assembly, go for it. Lots of those failing lately.

However, you can drive the car without fan. You just need to be "keep" moving.

 

Agree....I'm thinking more about parts that will just leave you stranded with no mobility and are small enough to be tucked out-of-the-way under the trunk floor...

 

If you are stuck in the middle of nowhere with a CPS failure you may have it in your trunk but the few simple tools to replace it should be in your trunk as well.
A supply of spare bulbs is always an asset as well. A cop may let you off a ticket if you can supply one on the spot.
Lastly don't forget to keep your spare tire inflated as well.

Hah, spare tire, thats a good one. While we are on the subject of tires though, I keep the green slime and a tire repair kit in the trunk area with the CPS, Jumper cables, tools(multifunction tool, small tool set), and spare bulbs. I would like to know what others have in their trunks as well, I know I am missing something!

However DO NOT OVER INFLATE. tends to leak and you'll end up as good as without one!

be sure to have the factory tool which can unlock the automatic shifter in case she locks up.
Happened to me once and I happened to have a phillips which worked.

ok i thought this spare tire thing was a joke. I know for fact we dont have spare tires but what is the deal here? Anybody care to enlighten me on this?

 

No we don't have a spare tire, many have wondered where it was when they bought a Crossfire, all we have is the pump and TireFix stuff, I kept the pump and replaced the other stuff with Slime. I have used it before with good results.

Montana Crossfire, thanks for the heads up, my multifunction tool (Gerber) has a flat blade screwdriver that is very similar to the tool we are supposed to have. Someone on here has a sketch of the tool which I need to have made!

Another must have would be a copy of the Red Cross listing.

I am wondering if you have jumped the gun on being an advocate for the Red Cross listing. I too opted to be on the list several times but it went un answered with no follow ups or interest being shown. Maybe no one expects to travel through this part of the woods.

For now, I keep my front license plate in my trunk -- at least until I get a ticket for not having it on the car!!!!!!!!

 

Searching the AutohausAZ catalog for a Crossfire crankshaft position sensor shows a Hella part for $54.11, not a Bosch, however searching for a 2003 Mercedes SLK320 sensor does show a Bosch part. Can anyone verify that the Hella and Bosch parts are interchangable?

I just buy the parts for the MB.... same as what is on the car....

 

I like the way you think....OEM all the way. No other parts have been suggested so far. I carry extra fuses, bulbs, tire patch kit and of course my CAA (AAA) card.
