First ticket and its a Doozie
Re: First ticket and its a Doozie
I have a hard time finding a place to speed in TO, the roads are so packed and you have to be on the look out for idiot drivers.
Hey Dave....point taken and agree....but I have found myself on the #407 (for those that don't know, Hwy #407 is the most expensive toll highway in the world) which you would agree is a nice ride and getting the speeds up their is easily done if not paying attention. Also Hwy #401 in the early morning hours, say 3a.m. is also begging for high speeds. Of course we have that law in Ontario that anything over 150km/h and your car is impounded....
FWIW, I've had the Crossfire up to 180km/h or more a couple of times....what a rush!

Re: First ticket and its a Doozie
Within the last 6 months I have gotten 2 tickets for 25+ over the limit, forcing the BMV to send me a letter stating that if I do not take drivers education my license will be suspended. I took the course and am ok again, but damn it, now I have to drive like Beaner
(not nearly as bad as when I was in HS, cop clocked me at 123 in a 30 in my red BMW, got off with a ticket for 24 over to avoid reckless driving charges and vehicle impounding)

That includes but not limited to
- 2 persons sitting in drivers seat
- Pet on driver lap
- Any object or obstruction that will impare the drivers ability or vision.

Well enough of my venting, i'm sure most of you can relate in oneway or another.
There is no disputing the fact that I was speeding but the manner in which they caught me I find to be a bit on the dirty side.

I had the same problem. First speeding ticket in over a decade the first spring I was in my XF. I felt bad but paid the ticket quickly.
Then I bought a Valentine One while still in Minnesota, and haven't had a problem since.

Re: First ticket and its a Doozie
Excellent insights all. I, too, have learned that cops always travel in pairs. If you're in the middle of the desert and you see a cop, do not take your speed back up until you see the second one. The light trick is pretty common too, and is used just to get the guys that think they're safe. I've also seen them in the crossover between two sides on the interstate apparently ready to tag traffic going the other way. Woops, that particular crossover is wide enough for an instant u-turn. I know a cop that always targets the guy in the 'rocking chair' because, in his words, "if someone is that chicken***t, he is the one who should get the ticket." It's a jungle out there and we're the prey.
As to fighting the ticket. You're a college student. Make the time. At your age you will pay for that ticket five times in insurance premiums, and if there's a one-in-three chance the cop won't show, you're way ahead of the game. All the other advice is good and works. Another approach is to appear ready to fight and nicely and make an offer to the City Attorney/DA to pay the fine without fighting the ticket so long as its reduced to a parking, that might work too. That always works in Vegas if there's no accident. Over my life I've received at least a dozen moving violations, and just by showing up I have had no points on my license since 1977. And you likely don't need a lawyer for any of this.
As to the fellow in Ontario, I used to commute between a residence near Detroit and a summer home an Lambton. The OPP are drop dead brutal.
