Had a vette once too !!!! Glad we got the crossfire now !!! Get way more looks & I lov to drive it !!!!!

 

96 vette? Dont do it. Newer ones? Well, it is overall a better car so go ahead and do it. I personally love the way Xfires look.

 

I think we should start a new thread: Vette locations. I'll start there goes one, there goes another one, theres one about two miles down the road, Oh there goes another one. Maybe this isn't such a good idea.

'Vettes make Honda Accords seem scarce.

 

Vette's are money pits. Had three when having a Vette was a big deal. Vette's now are a dime a dozen, affordable only by 60-yr. old Doctors, Lawyers or Indian Chiefs, (read geezers). They don't really turn heads like the XF. They just say: "Hey, look at me, I've got more money than brains".
Another BIG negative: They are made by the despised GENERAL MOTORS!

 

A) I would imagine any car that has been in continuous production for the past 50+ years would exist in larger numbers than other models.

B) Are they a dime a dozen or are they only affordable by 60 year old doctors? I'm sure pretty much everyone has a dime these days without being a doctor.

 

I beleive companies like Ferrari and Maserati have been making cars for 20-50 years longer than the vette has been around, and still in small numbers. The difference - class and quality. The American company is trying to get as many out the door at a decent price, while the other companies are worried about quality.

I would buy a 2004 maserati (for about 10K less than a new vette) before I would buy any corvette (except a new ZR1 )

They haven't been making the same model of any one car for that long. I don't know if the Vette is *the* longest continuously produced model, but I'm confident it would be in the top 5, at least.

 

Nothing wrong with the Vette, but as mentioned, they are fairly common while the Crossfire is not. The SRT6 is much more rare.

To plagiarize something President Lincoln (might have) said

I'm not sure you can lump ALL Vette's into the same sentence. When was the last time you saw a C1 driving down the road?
I will absolutely agree the C5's and 6's are everywhere. They've sold a zillion of them because of the name plus they're really great cars.
I have an affinity towards the C4 because I had one and enjoyed it, it's reliable unlike the C3, they're inexpensive and about as scarce as the XF now.

I don't consider myself a vette guy, but if I could trade my crossfire in on a C6 Z06, I would do it without a second thought. Having said that, C4 corvettes don't do much for me at all. The zr1 would be the only exception. And even then, I wouldn't trade the crossfire for one.

 

I can be your savior! Give me your white roadster and get your vette. Once your testosterone car med has you back to normal, I'll give you your roadster back....maybe.

 

Noticing more fondness for Corvettes on this page than I think is necessary, I am reminded of one of Ben Franklins many sayings.

"A fool and is money are soon parted".

(Not that there are any fools on this forum).

And before the flames start flickering, I will remind those who may be interested, I've had three of the damned things and consider myself poorer for the whole experience.

Yeah, but what generations did you own? It's my firm belief that most Vettes of the past have been junk and are generally poorly made. I would rather have the comparable 911 of the time, even if it was slower and more expensive. Though don't get me wrong, I'd love to own an original stingray coupe and early C3, as those are great looking cars. The C6 is a fantastic car---especially in z06 form. What evidence do you have that the C6 is junk? If you are basing the build quality of the current car on experience with previous versions, then you aren't a valid source. Even worse, is that you say basically infer that the vette is owned by old people with money, but have you seen the avg crossfire owner? C'mon guy, the average crossfire owner is about the same age as the avg buick owner---which isn't a bad thing, but it's not the youth mobile you are suggesting.

And yes, modern vettes are somewhat common. So are Porsche boxsters/caymans and 911s. But they're sports cars, so on the road in most areas, they are still somewhat rare compared with sedans and SUVs that clog the streets. The other thing is that because these cars are popular for what they are, that means their value on the used market keeps decreasing with each passing year. Bring on the $25k 505 hp zo6!

 

And, I'm not about to start bashing the XF. Over all, it's been a great car but it should be noted the extended warranty I purchased paid for itself in the first 6 months with just a couple of repairs.
This makes me nervous because that warranty will run out in less than a year.

 

How many problems have you have with your car? It sounds like a disaster the way you are describing it.

 

This thread is interesting. Bottom line for me - I love my XFire and want a roadster now too. If I could have a vette of choosing, a porche and a couple others as well - I would. It's really not a competition -- but a choice. Enjoy them all.
