Glad they found the problem Franc, see you soon!
My intake V1.0, filters inside the engine bay, everything protected, and looking good

No need for 'sleeves' to cover the filters, especially when wet, I would think these things would be horrible when they are wet, and the covers are wet and they are trying to suck through 2 wet layers, but this is just my crazy opinion......

That set up does look good. Smashingly so.

Question, if the intakes are inside the engine bay, how does that provide Cold Air?

It's where the air is being pulled from that counts.

Finaly gave the go ahead on repairs today.
Dealer was waiting for the Insurance Company. But they wouldn't take my calls.

So I drove by there this morning and we spoke.

It is a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooong way to Nashville in a Ford Focus. So I turned in the rental and got a new one.

For the record,
Cobalts suck also.

Damm, I miss my Crossie.

wow...sorry it's taking so long Franc...I am having my fill of an insurance company not returning my calls too. Seems they don't want to pay for my car that burned to the ground when their insured house fell on it...they seem to think my auto insurance should pay...go figure...anyway, glad you are getting her fixed...everything on hold for me, in fact, both cars and the harley are covered, stored in the garage...just no time right now...

If you need a nice young guy and a pretty blonde to come out and warm any of those SRTs up, give me a call

You missed some fun motoring, Doc. My birthday was Sunday and a wealthy friend called me and asked if I wanted to do some driving, of course, I said yes. We went out to his place and he let me drive his 600HP 427 Cobra and his C5 V8 transplanted RX-7. Its Tuesday and my ears are still ringing from unmuffled V8s LOL, what an absolute BLAST.

Your saga sounds awful. I'm almost embarrased to complain.

I have an excellent Allstate policy. We've had it for 40 or so years. The problem is they have farmed this claim out to an outside Adjuster service, who doesn't understand the word expedite Much less a more complicated one....inconveinenced. Let us not bring up Customer service.

The dealer has their own issues having recovered from a flood that devastated their huge sprawling dealership. They moved into a small Mitsubishi dealership and are building and remodeling as they try to take care of business.
They have like one bathroom working and maybe 50 employees, plus customers, so I'm cutting them some slack.

They do have several good Crossfire techs and a few Crossies on the service lot everytime I have visited.

Pardon the pun but between the Dealer and the Insurance Co I'm in good hands.

They are just so damm far away.

And the Cobalt is such a POS.

Got word today. Car will be ready Friday. Well, Maybe.

Sharko67 has offered to take me down there. Last time he and I recovered a car we teased the local gendarmes all the way home.
I have four weeks of non Crossfire tension to release.

TN, KY, IL be warned.

Thanks John. I kinda planned on it.

Slipped thru town last week in the middle of the night stopping at 8:00 AM just to give the shop a kick in the pants to get started. Felt bad about not hookin' up with you.

This time we'll make it so.

So, are we concluding it had nothing to do with taking in water? (i.e., have we pulled one over on the insurance company?)

Both the insurance adjuster and the shop technichian agree that the car took on water. They are the experts, I'm just an old geezer who thinks he knows sumtin' about engines.

I am the defiant one because it makes no sense.

That said the valves seized for some reason and the two out of three conclusion is water did it.

Nobody is pulling anything over on the insurance Company. The inspector/adjuster visited the shop three times during dis-assembly.

I could argue with him if I chose to be stubborn. I'm just not that much of a cummudgeon.

You would suggest I do otherwise?

BTW, I still don't believe it was water. But in truth, I can't tell you what it is if it ain't water.

If the adjuster likes the water story,

Then that is exactly what caused the failure.

Happy ending

I still think it's possible it wasn't H2O, rather ETOH & a revised rev-limiter!!

Then don't mod your engine.

If it was rev limiter then it would have happened during acceleration, or while hot rodding. That never happened on that day. I never came close to 6300 rpms and frankly these engines can do a lot more.

Besides, the engine was running fine when I shut it off. The problem came when I fired it up the next morning.

This is not the first C-32 to drop a valve. Stock engine

It is also not the first to get water in it. Again Stock set up.

ETOH? how so. While I have no fondness for Ethonal blends, most areas aren't using it unless required by law. It currently costs too much to add so the refineries don't unless they have to. Kentucky doesn't, to my knowledge, require it.

I have read this thread a few times and I am not sure what actually happened, a seized valve or a bent valve due to it dropping.
If the valve(s) seized I would wonder why and is it going to happen again? You say it happened on a cold start up.

If the valve is bent then it dropped, you were lucky, and it did not matter that it is a non interference engine. I would be happier with this scenario as long as the piston is not damaged.

I'm glad you will soon be up and running.

The checks are written and now I am at the mercy and kindness of the mechanics some 450 Miles away.

So this argument can stay here until they do a good job on my engine.

Then I can ask probing and possibly insulting questions.

Right now the mechanic says a valve droppped, the adjuster says several valves bent. I saw one valve stem slighly curved and no damage to any pistons. Until they button it up and it runs right, I'm not getting involved in the descrepancy
