Great to see it running! Just curious though. Does the 230 compressor converted to a turbo or twin charged have similar potential? It would have been a bolt in swap.

Possibly, but the 4G63 engine has a ton of aftermarket support and a huge following so price are cheap.

I highly doubt the 230 would hold as much power as the mitsu block and your still stuck with having to pay someone else to tune it. I drove the xfire to a couple of exhaust shops today. Then I came home and ordered some mandrel bent 3 inch pipe and a Moroso spiral flow muffler from Jegs. I'm going to wait until the exhaust is done before I drive it on the street again. The car shifts a little early to second gear but perfect from 2nd to 3rd.

Well after another month of neglecting the xfire I'm going to finish my exhaust. I'll finally have a proper place to work on it Monday. I did drive it today after doing some small mods(catch can, cooler thermostat, recirculated BOV, first oil change). At only 10#'s of boost I'm pretty sure it will destroy any limited crossfire. This is going to get very interesting when the boost gets turned up to 20+#'s.

Like usual it's been put at the bottom of my priority list. I have Sunday off and plan on finishing the exhaust. We'll see what really happens.

How is this possible. After all of the failed attempts at swaps from the same brand, you stick an asian motor and american trans in our cars. How did you get around the electrical issues?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

He just got rid of the German electronics alltogether... it's not that hard in terms of thought process if you want to go that route, just labor as you just have to rewire everything in the car you want to work. HDDP used a third-party engine management system with the Mercedes engine and was able to do plenty too (manual + supercharged SRT-6 engine, etc.) but his car is a stripped racecar so he didn't have to worry about wiring as many creature features.

My daily is a very modded A4. My sig isn't up to date, but that car is plenty fun for me and thus my cravings to drive the xf are drastically curbed. I only drive it on special occasions, so I would really like a step by step on how and what to strip from my car. It was a gift which holds tremendous sentimental value which is why I keep telling people Im not "just gonna sell it and buy an SRT-6" I don't care if I have to hotwire it to make it start or if its lit up like a christmas tree. I drive it like 3 times a year. Id like to race it.

Correct, not much to add to have everything functional too. I haven't had much time for internet fun lately, but I am still dedicated to this project. There is a car show at work(ADTRAN) this Friday and I might have to show up with the Xfire. Even though the driver's door is still fubarred from the hit and run my co-workers probably won't mind. I have the next three days to do some much needed projects on the car and I'll post the results here. I have a leaking transmission dip stick to fix, a valve cover gasket that is leaking(as well as valve cover to paint), and a missing LM-A cable that is preventing me from tuning the car at the moment. I did however get half the mandrel bent exhaust complete(to the Moroso spiral flow muffler with a turn down) and have driven the car enough to know that tuning won't be a problem once I can data-log rpm and get a heat sink built for my wide band sensor. Things have changed in the thought process and build though. I have decided to switch to Megasquirt and add an Eaton supercharger in place of the intake manifold(Twincharged). More soon...

hey Chuck, if you ever need someone to help turn a wrench then let me know. I am also in HSV, work on the Arsenal, and am part of the local car scene when i can be. We haven't run into each other yet but one of these days we need to. cheers

I'll definitely take you up on that offer. I want to cut the springs in a couple of weeks and according to your sig you are the master at it... I work weekends so i don't get to go to any local car events. I'll be working during this car show at ADTRAN and will only be able to come out on my lunch break.
Working at the arsenal driving a Mercedes Benz um I mean crossfire reminds me of...

The paint I used on the IC pipes is awesome. It has tones that go very well with the SSB paint. I plan on using it throughout the build. I'll post some more pics tomorrow with everything back together.

Pipes look awsome. I can turn a wrench with the best of them, but i went up to Steve's (32krazy!) to get my springs cut and camber kit put on. He has all the specialty tools that make the job a whole lot easier. cheers

Didn't get everything done but close. Ended up wasting a bunch of time trying to find the right o-ring for the transmission dip stick tube. The intake manifold and timing cover are next in line for paint. The paint is a Fusion color, I'll look for the exact name next time I'm in the store.
