Turbo Crossfire 2.0
Re: Turbo Crossfire 2.0
Picked up a 6bolt motor last weekend. Right now I am removing the balance shafts and installing all new gaskets and timing components. The motor only has about 1000 miles on it but was sitting on an engine rack for a few years. I also picked up the adapter kit for the TH350 transmission. Maybe I can have this done by December.

I have the short block ready, the head and intake assembled, and some motor mounts built. If my shoulder feels ok tomorrow I will have the engine and trans mated and installed.
And if it looks like I built this in my kitchen it's because I did. LOL

Cool build, hate that engine from a friend's DSM mis-adventures but I'm sure it'll be a lot of fun once it's done.
I'm curious about a bunch of things (as I'm sure everyone is):
Did you keep the stock harness and rewire the electronics box, or did you just pull everything and rebuild a harness?
Did you end up going 16G to start, or throwing in the big turbo? Where are you mounting the IC?
Stock radiator and fans?

I just got the motor in. It fits great but there is some minor trans tunnel issues I have to work out over the weekend. I bought the wrong torque converter so I ordered a new one from Jegs. Lots to do still.

I got a little more done before I left for Christmas with the family. Now that I have the head and intake on and the trans mated to the engine I can say there are no clearance issues.

Chuck do you know right off hand what the difference in weight will be compared to a stock Crossfire?
Just out of curiosity, did you consider using GM's 4 speed auto?

No inspection here, try looking into the local requirements, you may be able to pass if the LS ECU is connected to the OBDII port and all emission devices are present and functioning. I would guess they use a universal scanner and test according to the emissions outlined by the VIN number.

It was used in every Diamond Star Motors car (Plymouth Laser, Mitsubishi Eclipse, Eagle Talon) and every Lancer Evo through the Evo IX.
It's light and can be built to put out pretty crazy power (just like most little FI 4-cylinders) - builds with north of 500hp are pretty common, and it even had 400+hp stock applications in some limited-run Evos. DSMs weighed more than the Crossfire, so the 4G63T should do just fine in the XFire load/torque-wise.
I'll leave ChuckNorris to explain why he himself chose the 4G63T though
