I think I am trading her in...
I think I am trading her in...
Unfortunately..
At my own will. I love this car, everything about it. The speed, the design, the curves.. I always tell everyone "baby got back" haha.
She has gotten me, or I more so I have gotten myself into too much trouble with her.
I am worried about what the future brings, no one at any of the Chrysler dealerships around here no junk about these cars. The closest technician in Indiana, like Jane told me, is in Vincennes (4 hours away). The parts and tire prices scare me for this thing. She has 87k on the clock, still runs like a dream but I hate seeing the number so high.
I really love being so unique and getting a lot of head turns and questions about it, but I think it is time to let her go.
I am a big guy and looking for some more room.
I'm currently looking at a... dare I say it... Ford Mustang. I hate almost all of them, except from the 60's and the early 70 Boss', but this one has definitely caught my attention; A 2006 model that I have drooled over for the past week. I usually never like them and I like the fact that it is bigger, manual, still a great looking car, 48k less miles, and the fact that there will always be someone that knows how to work on a mustang. Tires and parts are a lot cheaper also... And a good Ford dealership is an hour away, not bad at all.
I will be extremely sad to see her go if this does go through, but I think the best thing for me to do right now is to get something a little bigger.
Sad, but good thing is that I have been faster in the crossfire than the mustang registers . But with 2 tickets already, I can't afford another one. And I think being a manual will help me pay attention to my speed a bit more.
I do love this car...
Every time I wash her though I see another dent or scuff or scratch . I hate it.
Maybe later in life when I get old and shrink I will hopefully buy an SRT6.
I do love all of the friendly and incredibly helpful people around here and will still hang around, once again, if I do actually get the mustang.
I got the CARFAX on it, and it says that it has had 2 owners.. wanting to know a bit more about that; so I am calling the dealership tomorrow hoping the get the previous owners contact information and then hopefully going to test drive it soon.
This car is definitely not stock and I want to know some more about it's history before I get ahead of myself.
I will let everyone know how it goes.
I want to thank everybody for being to helpful and informational about these cars, it has helped a lot.

Re: I think I am trading her in..
Josh, good luck with what ever you do. But don't underestimate the temptation to "break the law"' the Mustang will offer. (Especially with a manual gear box).
It should be a more economical way to go, when compared with Crossfire upkeep for sure.

Re: I think I am trading her in..
I too share your feelings/pain
Chrysler dealers here dont know anything about this car, I have to tell the parts guy and the service people how to do things. Try asking for the interior trim piece clips... lol
I end up taking the car to my mercedes dealer.
The other problem is since Chrysler was restructured getting parts for these cars from the dealer is damn near impossible. I've been looking for things for almost a year.
I love driving the car, more so than my daily driver, but everytime I look down I hate seeing the odometer climb. These cars have tanked in value and the mileage only adds to the depreciation.

Re: I think I am trading her in..
Howard, I think we all are in agreement about the depreciation and lack of mechanics for these cars. I am in the process of offloading mine (I'll refrain from using the word 'disposing'), replacing it with a used C55. I love this little car, the first car that I ever owned I might add, and she has been my baby. I have spent a lot of blood (literally), sweat (also, literally), and tears (came close a few times), working on this car and maintaining it. I hope you find happiness with your new 'stang, however, I don't think the fit and finish of that car will come close to that of the European manufactured Crossfire. After falling for the Crossfire, I simultaneously fell for the sound mechanics and quality of Mercedes and wonder if I will ever go back to anything else.
Good luck!
Good luck!
Re: I think I am trading her in..
Good luck with whatever you do Josh. I passed a machine gray NA this morning, immediately noticed her from the back while I was at least 5 to 8 cars back in traffic. I know that someday when mine's gone I'll pass a Cross and just smile, but at the same time will wish I had her back.
I too, just before I bought the Cross in Dec 2008, I fell in love with a 2006 Mustang GT, an updated version of Eleanor from "Gone in 60 seconds" with a flip up rear spoiler, titanium gray, black leather, 6 speed, white stripes and the rear side window louvers. and only 9K on the clock. Man that car was sharp. They wanted 21,900 for it and wouldn't come down. 3 days later it was indeed gone, and tell the truth I have never forgotten that car. But it wasn't supposed to have been mine. The white Cross was.
Mine, I think, unless it gets totaled, will be with me for a long time. Parts be darned. I take mine to a good mechanic who doesn't care what he works on. when it dies she'll be getting a new Chevy drivetrain and whatever mods need to be done in a new dash. The fact that it will get rarer as time goes on is the deciding fact for me. To me it is the updated AMX I always wanted. Long hood, short rear.
Again, glad to have had you aboard. Forever Cross, man. Forever Cross.

Re: I think I am trading her in..
A year or two ago I'd have said "are you crazy" but I really do understand where you are coming from. It's really ashame we seem to have become Chrysler's "******* child". I really get the feeling that in another few years there wont be anyone in a dealership that will want to touch one of these cars, much less know how. Take it to a Mercedes dealer? Already asked the two in my area. They would look at the engine but nothing else ( and probably charge and arm and a leg). Right now I plan on keeping mine and trying to find a Mercedes mechanic at an independent garage that will take care of things as they come up but the concern has crossed my mind.
As long as this forum is alive, the club is functioning I think we will be ok but I am too concerned, especially about replacement parts. I wish you nothing but good luck with your new car, the Mustang is a nice car. Good luck!

Owning a Crossfire at the age of 18 is like marrying the best girl in school at 18.
While you know in your heart she is exactly what you wanted, you surely wonder about what you missed.
Especialy, a few years later, when a cute smile from a gal who seems easier, friendlier, and cheaper to keep than the one you are living with wiggles by.
As others have said, once you own a Benz product, it is rare you find satisfaction in a "common" vehicle.
But they are not cheap or easy to keep.
Enjoy playing the field Josh. Endulge in the faster, cheaper, easier gals{cars}. When you set your standards for the "special" one, it'll be a lot like the Crossie you most surely will miss.
Each and everytime you see one.

Re: I think I am trading her in..
While reading this thread I can only think of how happy I am to have Eurocharged Performance only 12 miles away from my house.
I trust that these guys will be around for me when and if I need service.
My best to you all who are still seeking a knowledgeable mechanic to work on your Crossfire.

Wish they were closer.
They will be in St Louis Monday June 21 (and maybe June 22 if we can get enough sign ups) for Tunes at the CAA.

ok i cant be mean, i really liked how that one look. side note i was looking at mustangs as well before i bought my xfire.
Re: I think I am trading her in...
to be honest, I think most mustangs are ugly, they just look bland.
I don't like hardly any from '75-'04, and some of the newer ones are still ugly.
I like the 60's and 70s Boss. I absolutely love the look of the 2010 shelby GT500. mmm. however, not in my price range.

Re: I think I am trading her in...
Mustangs are cool.....for sure...HowardJ...I may have found a XF mechanic for those who are in the central IN area....still checking him out...haven't had time to get my car up there...so the verdict is still out...I have a mechanic who helps me out, when I get over my head, but this dealership mechanic would be for those who have warranty issues...I will still use my own mechanic...so, if you keep the car and get stumped, let me know, and I can hook you up...shouldn't be more than a 2 hr drive for you...
