All I can say about this subject is that I don't feel like getting into an accident by brake checking, It is not worth the trouble or the pain. Besides you know how hard it is to get parts for these things?

Your right Gary, and as soon as I can find my CICCI "shot glass" I will.

Someone thinks he's a mafioso, and enjoys calling everyone a "wise guy".
I grew up in NYC, and one of my best friends was Italian, and his family was in the Trucking business, and I met and knew actual members of various families, and none of them talked like this guy here does.

Every thread on the internet gets hostile and hilarious, not always in that order, when one person tries to prove that their thoughts or actions are better than others, and then the others say that their idea of "better" is even dumber than the original issue raised.

Someone always says "I knew this thread was going to hell in a hand basket", and is typically a moderator.

That my driving style isn't s bad as others, and I really need to step up my hostility on the road.

I hope most of you enjoyed this thread as much as I did.

BC.

When I use the word "wise guy" funny, I never think about anything mobster like. Wise guy = knows what he is talking about / experienced. In my book.

oh by the way, and you are not a wise guy.

When I was a younger man, I was in my Dad's car and he was driving. I noticed that the rear view mirror was turned completely up, making it impossible to see anything behind the car. I asked him why and he said "So I can't see the ahole drivers that are tailgaiting".

Back some years ago, I owned a 1985 Cougar XR-7 (turbo 2.3 liter). On a trip from Charlotte to Durham in NC, there is a stretch of I-85 from Salisbury to Greensboro that is wide open 3-lane each way and fun to "open up" on.

Well I was coming back to our house in Durham one evening late running around 80. I noticed a Mustang that gradually came up on me & stayed behind at a reasonable distance. When he pulled left and started to pull alongside, I figured he wanted to run. It's 2 AM and there is hardly any traffic. So I punched it and ran off from him. But only for a few minutes.

He accelerated and came up along side of me. We're both running somewhere between 110 & 120 at this point. When I looked over, he hit his inside lights. Low & behold to me it was a NC Highway Patrol in a unmarked 5-liter Mustang coupe! He shook his finger at me, floored it and he pulled away from me!

Needless to say I slowed down!

Yeah, today they will throw you in jail for that kind of crap, impound your car, and revoke your license.

This thread got really retarded, really fast. Sorry if that offended anyone who wishes to remain PC. I don't generally speak in those terms.

Musclefan, you know what you did was stupid, you know you were lucky that you didn't get pulled over for it, and I'm sure you know you were lucky since you didn't get into a pile-up with a cop and who ever else was around you. People are simply getting on your *** because you won't acknowledge you shouldn't have done it for more than the "ticket/getting pulled over" reason. I'm sure you know you that you're lucky because of the second reason, but remember this, defending your position in a hostile manner on the internet always begets more hostility back at you. That's the way the internet works. Someone is bound to call you stupid for one reason or another or try to argue with you. It's like the same thing on the road- ignore them, don't fight with them, and eventually they'll go away.

In my few short years of driving, I've come to understand the safest thing to do is always suspect any unmarked, normal-looking vehicle that any police force (area specific, of course) uses should be seen as a cop until you can for sure identify if they are or aren't. In my area, that means crown vics and impalas. If it looks suspicious, then be suspicious.

Just be safe. You don't want to wreck your XF. You'll have a hard time replacing or repairing it.

Now, everyone, quit bickering like little girls. Also, read some of what these "old-timers" have to say- they have some interesting stories with some good lessons in them.

I would do this if I didn't use my mirrors so much. I tend to look into my center mirror at stop lights and leave my XF in gear just in case I have some idiot that isn't slowing down fast enough- maybe I can get out of the way.

You might have been lucky not to get a ticket this time, but do you seriously think he didn't get your plate. How hard will it be for him or one of his buddies to spot you in a crossfire in the future?
