Your Post:
"ok, just so everyone understands, i use this forum for very useful info. I want to ythank everyone for their posts on a myriad of subjects as it has been quite informative, insightful and sometimes funny.

with that said I present the following for your amusement.

While driving to El Paso to visit some friends, I was cruising at about 120.

perfect driving day, no traffic, no peep from the radar detector, unlimited visibility.

saw something in the rear view coming up quickly so I slowed down to about 90.

a black crossfire passed me like i was standing still. i saw brake lights so i figured he wants to have some fun too.

i punched it and took it to about 120 and i caught up.

no markings on it, just all blacked out.

we rolled down our windows and gave each other the 'nod', and i punched it.

i got ahead about a car length and he blasted by. i took it to 155 and could not catch him.

i have run against srt-6's, vetts and other assorted high lines but this was different. i get smoked by the higher power cars but with my mods i'm prob pushing 400 hp +/- and i have never experienced that level of
being left in the dust!

now the question is, what kind of crossfire is this. anyone know? "----

Just too much of a coincidence to me.

I didn't post at mbworld. i neither own a clk55 nor live in las vegas

uuhh,

has no one on this site ever heard of Startech???

They did the conversions in Germany. If I'm not mistaken, it isn't a 6.1 HEMI, it's a stroked MB 5.0 liter.

Oh and it has been done by LantanaTX with the V8 out of a CL550.

Here's photos I took of LantanaTX's V8 conversion:

It's not that it can't be done, it's that without pics, it's hard to substantiate a claim and not have people wondering if it's not just talk. Every V8 conversion that has been documented has had pictures accompany the claim. That's the point. Anyone can say they're throwing in a V8 in their car and everyone would be ooohhhh but until they'd post pictures, people would pretty much call BS too.

Lantana had to get very creative to get that 5.5L engine to fit into the engine bay. Even with a much thinner electric fan, he only had 1" clearance between the pulleys and and the fan. Not much fun if you have to replace a pulley. Anyway, if a 5.5L engine would barely fit, how the hell would you get a 6.1L Hemi in there? I would have to see it to believe it.

We are all aware of these conversions, the startech is listed as 426 HP at the crank and I believe Lantana's sans FI is well under that. This thing is claiming over 600HP, quite a difference IMHO
