The rear fog light is a red light about twice as bright as your brake lights. They are used when visability is reduced to less than 100m when driving in thick fog.

You can see a car ahead much earlier when it has a rear fog light switched on compared to one without.

There has been several fatalities in multi car pile ups on the Motorways when thick fog has been around.

So, its purpose is to make you visible to other motorists behind you.

I think it started in Germany. When you are driving on the Autobahn when it,s raining, you can only see a wery little distance in front of you, couse of the heavy traffic. And there were
many accidens beacuse some ignored to take the speed down (idiots) With this taillight you can see a car in heavy fog or rain in a god distance. But i also hate this guys wo forget to switch it of in the night when it,s clear

It an very Bright Red rear light normally most cars have just one on the back and it is purely a visability issue during winter and sping months when there is heavy fog on the roads mainly at night and some early mornings. Sometimes visability can go down to about 10ft and you can just see over the bonnet, espsecially in the country and on dark motorways. Alternatively on motorways with heavy water spray from the surface of the roads when raining they are very handy also. The hope is to prevent the rear end collissions and motorway pileups which happen so often. If left on when there is no fog they can be very dazzling in the dark and very annoying.

Ill see what I can do about researching some lights for you. I'm sure I saw at least one just very recently when I was looking for some tints for mine, decided not a good idea in the end again due to the fact that idiots find it hard to drive here anyway let alone dimmed lights too.

[edit: Roadking beat me to it with a much simpler and precise response LOL SO DID BAZZER need to type faster!]

My Neighbour drives through Germany all the time with his beat up Supra. He highly recomends it to me for the drving experience BUT Ive got to 140 here and it scared the **** out of me so I really cant see me wanting to do it for prolonged periods. Its the thrill of getting there thats in it for me not the maintaining it LOL Anyone else agree??

As for Mr **** Face Arrogant Clarkson I have never seen him like a car that costs less than a £100K and breaks down every 5 miles. He owns a Ford GT for godsake!! Not one to talk about **** (rubbish) unrealiable cars that are over expensive and uneconomical, oh and that looks worse than a Sh**ting dog!!

Yep, the fabulous Autobahns. I have driven on them several times and if your not doing greater than 140mph, then your holding up the Autobahn cruisers who sit at 150mph. The beauty of Europe which the UK isn't included, is that they have lane discipline, i.e. they overtake and then pull back in. Over here in the UK we have imbociles who insist in hogging a lane when not even overtaking which makes driving at high speeds dangerous, hence our ridiculous 70mph speed limit on the Motorways. Remove the idiots from the roads and the competent drivers can cruise at 140mph quite safely. Speed does not kill, incompetence kills.

One thing I cant understand is why on a straight road people have to still hogg the middle lane at 50mph, I totally agree with you!!! Also how so many incidents can happen on a perfectly straight well maintained peice of road, WHY ....because we all have to jame the breaks on when the guy doing 50mph moves to the third lane to overtake the one doing 40mph in the slow lane with a lorry up its bum that has lost his patience.

Slow drivers are more of a menace causing frustration in others and making them overtake. Im gonna say it as it wil come out sooner or later, Im a Personal Injury Lawyer here with my own practice. A lot of accidents we deal with are head ons from people overtaking slow cars at the worng time. Both parties are just as stupid obviously!

Trinny, take it cool and move to the real Europa! When we are driving on the highways,
because we live closer to the east, we hire a taliban to sit next to us, and he will clear the road
