Default Looking to purchase a Crossfire

Hello,

I am currently looking to purchase a new car this spring/summer. I'm particuarly interested in the N/A Crossfire, as well as the upcoming '05 Mustang V8.

I love the styling and options (such as the 19" wheels, etc.) of the Crossfire, but am undecided -- mostly due to its' limited power. I haven't had the chance to really take one out and drive it without a salespeson watching my every move.

I haven't driven the new Mustang (obvioiusly ) but love the retro appeal. However, I would be tempted to modify the car (due to the vast parts availible) which is something I've been trying to stray away from.

I've also heard many good things about the upcoming SRT-6, but with the amount of power projected, I would feel uncomfortable driving a RWD car with that amount of power (as an everyday car at least).

I currently drive a GT Cruiser. The car is very versatile and quick, but it doesn't really have that "sporty" appeal I want.

I realize that this is a personal decision, but as an owner is there any adivce anyone could give me? Anything that you love about the car that sets it apart from other cars? Any little things you like ? (ie, the sound system, etc)

Thanks in advance!
-Katie

If you're uncomfortable with the power the SRT-6 will have, then you should stay away from the Mustang also. The 2005 Mustang will have 315 lb-ft of torque and it's also rear wheel drive. Plus, from the reviews I've read, most Mustangs of the past don't handle nearly as well as the Crossfire and that will probably be true with the 2005. I've also never been impressed with Ford's reliability. The only Mustang I would ever own would be a classic '60 car for cruising on dry, sunny days.

I traded in my 2000 mustang GT for the Crossfire. I was more than a little concerned about the "preceived" lack of power of the crossfire. But after driving it now for 5 months and 8K miles I no longer feel that need for more power. Sure, the Stang could spin the tires and make alot of noise but the Xfire will run rings around the pony on curvy roads. I had my Mustang up to 110 once ( have not had a ticket in 18 years, crosses fingers ) and the Crossfire to 115. The Crossfire is by far the smoother ride. I think I would loose my license if the Crossfire had more power.

Hi Katie, welcome to the forum. "I would feel uncomfortable driving a RWD car with that much power". Obviously your not familar with muscle cars of the 60's and 70's. I could tell you tails about the big block Vettes and others, but that's another forum. Or do you mean that the SRT would not have enough power? Doubt it, but if so you must really like to drive on the edge.

I like the new 2005 Mustang too, had a 69 Mach 1 that it reminds me of, and my Son and his wife have a pair of 66 Mustang convertables. Nice retro styling and they are going to sell like crazy. Means you will see them on every street corner. The Crossfire is a much more sophisticated choice, great styling with refined road manners, fast enough with great handling and eye appeal. Was my first choice after looking over the field and I hope it will be yours also.....

i'm a little curious about that r.w.d. issue. it occurs to me that there are a whole lot of people out there who have never driven r.w.d. cars with power. the rear whee drivel is, to me, a lot more stable and really safer with power. if you light-up a front wheel drive and break it loose there's no telling where it's headed. probably in the nearest ditch. they are almost always front-heavy and if you goose it going into a turn, it won't. with r.w.d., you can power-up and the steering is still solid.
