Re: Cheap Tires?
If you're considering these tires for anything except winter use in snowy conditions, don't. You won't be happy with the noise and handling on dry roads in the summer. It is essentially a snow tire, with it's chief goal being traction in snow and ice. That does not translate well to summer driving.
Re: Cheap Tires?
I have these exact tires on my car right now...FOR WINTER
I would highly recommend these for winter use, but definitely not for non-winter months.
The wear on these tires during non-winter months will completely offset the cost of buying these cheaper tires.
In addition, the road noise is quite more than other all-season/summer tires. During winter months thhe road noise is bearable, especially when you are going slowly through the snow/slush.

Re: Cheap Tires?
Do you have them just on the rear......or all 4 ? I don't seem to be able to get more than 25 or 30 k miles out of any tire......so $105 seems SO CHEAP!!! New OEM Contis are like $250 each.....so what if I only get 20K miles out of them!!! Surely even in the winter you have many days where you drive like a maniac....how do they handle when you drive like that???
Re: Cheap Tires?
lol, marshmallow handling winter tires on a sports car in the summer.
you will know what i mean by marshmallow when you drive with them. your car will be "squishy" and sway back and forth in the curves and handle/stop like crap when you drive with these in the summer.
there are plenty of all season/performance tires that are cheap out there.
I spent almost $700 on just the 2 rear tires on mine since i use mine as a sports car/on the roadcourse.

Re: Cheap Tires?
I'm not going to put them on till next October or so....we've had almost constant snow here in KC since last November....shoveled another 6 inches of new snow last night....
Again though, how squirmy can they be if they are 35 series tires with a higher load rating than the OEM Contis....load rating suggests sidewall stiffness/strength doesn't it? Or are you saying the tread-blocks themselves won't be as stiff?
I'm putting about 20,000 miles/year on the stick & it's really eating tires...
Whatever, for only $105.....it's worth a try.

They handle exactly like photoman said, squishy. The siping in the tread blocks means that in the non-winter months you will see excessive treadwear and will also see the squishing of the treadblocks as previously mentioned. I never go pedal to the floor from a dig with these tires as there is nothing but broken traction all the way through 1st and 2nd...
I would definitely suggest the Hankooks for summer tires. I have the Hankooks on in the summer and Blizzaks on in the winter. A small price to pay to enjoy my car year round.

If I had to guess, and kept the tires on year round doing the same style driving as I am right now. I would say 20-25k.
Then again, that's a lot better than my OEMs on my previous crossfire. Was down to the wear bars w/in 10k miles on the Contis'. Still undecided on how long the Hankooks will last. If they were on the front I would bet the Hankooks would last 30k miles, but on the back. I'm just hoping for 15k miles out of them.
If/When I move back to the south where I don't need the winter tires anymore, I'll sell them (hopefully this spring when I take them off) and would probably invest in some different tires (maybe all-season) for living down in Texas... who knows.
My current setup is: OEM Contis' on the front, Blizzak LM-25 265/35/19 on the rear.
Re: Cheap Tires?
Well, if I put them on in October.....maybe they'll be worn down enough by April of 2011.....(hopefully end of snow season here)....that they won't be so squishy or squirmy if I decide to keep them on in summer. Should probably just buy a second set of wheels in case of another blowout like I had last year at 80+ MPH.....just glad I got stopped before the wheel was damaged. Eventually took one off the 08 to get the 07 home.
Re: Cheap Tires?
You got a GREAT set of tires, expecially considering the price. If I were you, I would sell them and get a set of A/S if you are going to drive them year round.
I have these tires all the way around on my OEM wheels for the winter and as Matt and Pman have said, they are ONLY a winter tire, and you will not be happy with them year round, unless you absolutely drive your XF like it was a Honda Odyssey and do not mind the tires sounding like a lifted ford on 38" mudders (obviously an exageration, but you get the point).
Since you got such a good deal, I would wait until right before next winter, sell them as brand new on here to someone who needs them and buy the all seasons.....

Re: Cheap Tires?
Everything is covered in the above posts, noisy and wear like crazy in warmer weather.
If these have those sipes? (little slits in the rubber) they whine in the rain on top of the normal noise.
In warm weather these tires will leave black marks on the pavement if you turn the wheels too sharply when maneuvering in driveways and parking lots. Turn the wheel when you are not moving and the rubber removed is amazing to see. If you do not see any rubber it is because that first soft layer has worn away and they are not as good on ice as they were new.
Use only at freezing point and below if possible. If you use them one winter and one summer they will not be any good the next winter.

Re: Cheap Tires?
you should be able to get 2 seasons, winter, out of them. Like others have said, they will wear really fast in summer dry conditions. they have a soft tread compound, hello, fo winter. Add the heat of the pavement in July and they'll be melting off your car. Definitely not recommended for summer. Can you? yes, but the question is why? If you want to go that route, like I will, it would be a set of A/S's that will be a good compromise of both, but not great for either. Everything's a trade off. Everything.
