I am screwed... (Sound system)
I am screwed... (Sound system)
Well, I JUST found out that the previous owner not only replaced the stock headunit, he also replaced door and rear speakers. Which is supposed to be a good thing but I am not satisfied with the sound that much.
door speakers are Crunch GTR and rear speakers are PYLE brand. Not sure about their size or any other specs. All I know is I am not really satisfied with them. Must sound better than stock since he "upgraded".
I just bid on a stock infinity radio from a 2007 crossfire and I am thinking about picking a pair of Infinity kappa speakers (no idea which size so i will need your help. a link would be greatly appreciated.)
About rear speakers, I want to put something more powerful but I do not want to upgrade the stock AMP. So something powerful enough for stock AMP.
Also, the rear speakers are facing inwards, hard to explain, i will post pics very soon. Basically driver side rear speaker is looking at passenger side and pass. side rear speaker is looking at diver side about 45 degrees. Is this normal or this dude modified it?
The thing that bothers me the most is, my door handles are professionally covered. Whoever did it, did one hell of a job, looks like from the factory. And the problem is, in order to replace the speakers, i need to remove the door panels and in order to replace the door panels, i need to remove two screws from the door handles which i have no access
I don't know what to do at this point, where to start, etc...

AHHH there's dirt on your handle,
I'll have to look but I don't remember seeing the rear speakers at all in any of my crossfires. Infact I believe theres a plastic piece behind my seat. I never look back there so I'll have a peek next time I'm near my car.

Re: I am screwed... (Sound system)
A while back I installed Infinty Reference 6 1/2" 2 ways in the doors. Left the subs alone and upgraded to a Pioneer Headunit. Sounds great to me. Read the Biggest... thread.

Installing 6" 2 ways in place of the subs was a mistake in my opinion. The Infinitys in the doors and the caps and headunit sound nice in my opinion, but it is that-just an opinion. I have a roadster and it is MORE than loud enough.

Re: I am screwed... (Sound system)
Yes... you have a problem here! A lot of wierd things about your car!
I like your door handle. There must be a way to take it off without destroying it. If not this radio conversion will end up costing you more in the end because you will need factory door handles. If the silver mount is still there you may only need the silver covers. That could cost you about 20 dollars each for new pieces.
Not sure why you would want to put the factory radio back in. I took mine out and love the new radio. My Blaupunkt matches the silver interior very well.

any brand & size recommendation for the doors and the back that will fit right in? I would like to replace them both and possibly a stock infinity headunit is gonna me on my hands very soon.
It appears i am gonna have to tear up the door handle covers. I hope they didnt glue it but it doesn't move so i am almost certain that they did
thanks.

Re: I am screwed... (Sound system)
Muscle... by the way, the previous owner probably had the covers put on because most of us had issues with the door handles. They would split in the back and would become dangerous (like a razor). Some people have cut their fingers on them. I had mine replaced at the dealership under warranty a long time ago.
Just an FYI in case you weren't aware of the reasoning behind it. The previous owners intention was good... just didn't think it through properly.

I think they did a horrible job with the sound system. sometimes it sounds really good and sometimes it doesn't (when the car is cold. not sure if cold weather effects the electronics)
About the stock radio, i just like the clean stock look. I should have a decent sound with upgraded door and rear speakers with stock radio right?

On to the door handles, It's very possible that whoever put them on didn't put screws back in the door. There are 4 tabs Front, Back, Top, and Bottom. That hold them in on each side (left/right) They were challenging to get off when I could see the tabs, I can't imagine how difficult it would be if you could see the tabs. Again pics help, and luckily for you I believe I have my old handles at home that I can take photos of when I get home.

Here is the pic of my pass side door. I cant wait to see the pics of the rear speakers. I am soo tempted to place my order on set of door and rear speakers....

Good luck with this. I think the stock stereo is ok. All I did was pull my stock stereo out and put a silver plate blaupunkt in. I love the look of the new stereo. The only reason why I did this was so I could use my ipod. Otherwise I was very happy with the stock stereo.
The beauty is because I used a Blaupunkt the connections are exactly the same as the stock radio. If I want to switch it back it would take me 5 min. Just slide and plug the stock stereo back in. That simple!

Those are for 6 1/2" speakers.
The doors also take 6 1/2". I used Infinity 6022i. Very nice. The OEM speakers are no comparison:
Infinity Reference 6022i 6 1/2"- 6 3/4" Reference Series 2-Way Car Speakers
If you strike out on the OEM headunit, I have my old one and will give it up for a low price-just not free. It worked fine when I swapped it out.
The addition of the capacitors is for cars with the rear subs only. Black07 was right. There should be an oval black/gray plastic grill low behind each seat. I'm not sure if the base cars have that hole-you'll have to check it out. Sorry, bud!
