Default Finally got a radar detector

Well i'm sick of having to watch for cops so I finally got a radar detector. It is a beltronics vector 995, and it was right at $300. Has anyone heard much about these or had any experiences with them?

check out Radar Detector Jammer Forum... you'll find everythign you need.

where do you live? chances are your officers stepped up to using LASER, INSTANT-ON, and the always popular VASCAR...

I went through a few radar detectors, notably the 9500i, V1, x50, and 9500CI..

Unless you're willing to get a LASER JAMMER (for good protection =$$$$), VEIL, and not BE COMPLETELY STUPID.. radar detectors aren't really worth it.

Don't get a false sense of security. While your radar detector might help you out every once in a while (did for me, nothing too spectactular...), there are a lot of other tools the police will use to nail you.

I can tell you that out of the all the speeding tickets I've ever received, only one was when I didn't have a radar detector...Although I was on the phone with Doc so who knows

Truth of the matter is they will make you complacent and you'll rely on the detector more than common sense and knowledge of your surroundings.

I personally watch way ahead of me and look at my rear view mirror every 5-10 seconds (habit) to watch the road. I dont speed crazy maybe 15mph over but hey it is enough to get me a ticket so i watch it carefully. I never had one and don't want one because it makes me feel like i am trying to fool the officers and i have ton of respect to law and officers. However i have a few friends who swears that radar detector saved them countless times.

I sometimes do speed like crazy (well over 100). But only if I am on a flat road with few to no cars and no turns. Ill get up to around 120 to 140 and then slow down. I never stay at a speed like that for more than a couple of seconds. I always look around me also but I just think the radar and my looking will be even better. Either way today I took the car to 140 and right when I got there the radar went off and I stomped on the brakes and just after I got back to about 60 I saw a cop. Thats 1 save so far and I just got it today!

before the tickets, watch for your own life, a small mistake at those speeds can and possibly be deadly. If I remember correctly, you are pretty young, a speeding ticket at those speeds can and will effect your future (career wise) so think smart and play it smart.

I do try to e very safe. There is a road near my house that is 4 miles long, flat, straight, and their are never any other cars on it, thats where I usually get to speeds like that. Also how does everyone know that I am young? I mean I don't care if people know I would just like to know how they know? I'm 16

Oh, BTW I have used radar detectors for MANY years.

I don't rely only on them but they are part of my be aware "package" when looking out for "The Man".

Kinda like Doc.

Yep, you definitely can't lower your lookout for cops just because you bought a radar detector. They do help, mainly with the lazy cops (probably 90%+), but sometimes you can see the cop car before your detector will go off since they are sitting there looking for someone fast before they turn their radar on.

I do 90% interstate driving, and THP uses mostly laser in my zone. So the radar detector simply doesn't justify itself as a purchase. Plus, I never liked added clutter in/around the windshield.

I've used a Bel for 5 years and replaced it two years ago with a Bel 965. Good range and sensitivity, but it has been back for repairs two times and the last time they replaced the 'motherboard". Seems to work much better now. I receive initial beeps over 1/2 mile from active and instant on radar. I suggest that as soon as it peeps, you slow down hard.

Does this mean that I can hit 200mph on the expressway when I turn 65?

DJ....I will keep it short...if you ever think your radar detector saved you, the real truth is, he wasn't interested...we aren't always working, or might be on a call for service...most sheriff's dept's throughout the country take more calls for service than running radar. Highway patrols, state police, run a lot of traffic and not much else...City officers do both...so, watch out for the locals, and state officers, they love traffic...I was lucky enough to have a Camaro, and do traffic only in my later years...it was fun at first, then, they expected those citations week in, week out...lol

Was waiting for you to chime in Doc.. you seem to do that in every radar detector thread..!

First I thought "no way, he's just an old grumpy LEO!!"

Now I know (don't...ask... how ) you absolutely know what you're talking about.

VASCAR will nail you. INSTANT ON will nail you. LASER will nail you. Any state officer (i.e highway) with a peanut-sized brain knows how to catch speeders, and that is not by leaving their radar gun on.

Do you live in the city? Falses drove me crazy as well ..

I'm only 20, had my Radar Detectors from 18-20, and if I had one at 16 (I got the car when I was 15 as well, so I know how you're thinking), I can only imagine how 'invincible' I thought I'd really be.. boy that would've turned out bad..
