Watching Dateline, (about stolen cars in Vegas) got me to wondering. Does anybody remember a post about a Crossfire ever getting stolen?
I remember a photo of a burned out hulk of a coupe, and some people speculated it was a stolen vehicle that was torched. But nobody knew for sure.

I saw the show too and have wondered the same thing. I agree with Franc, the only stolen xfires I've seen were from the dealer/seller.

 

Stole mine a few weeks ago...

 

Have you not seen Gone in 60 Seconds? "Those Mercedes have laser cut transponder keys and are supposed to be unstealable(sp)"

 

I thought I saw one on ebay recently... they said it was once stolen for the headlights or something which is why it was listed as a salvage item. I thought there was something posted about it in the forum. It makes you wonder... if our exterior parts are really hard to find then the cars may become a hot item among theives. They could part out the car because bumpers, grills and hoods are not being made anymore. The car would be worth more in pieces.

 

Boy, how soon I forget. That was the "Targa" Crossfire. I guess it just goes to show how big of an impression it made on me.
Mike, I haven't seen "Gone in 60 sec." in years, and the only thing I do remember is "Eleanor", and Angelina....and I'm not that crazy about either one.

 

Back in 2007 I remember someone posting that he had his crossfire stolen. He left the XF running to go inside the store because it was cold out and when he came back it was gone. Someone had taken it for a joy ride. Then one of his family members saw his XF and followed it. He did not know about the REST button.

 

I have seen them on the insurance sale site and are listed a theft recovery.

 

Unless you have a key MB products are very hard to steal and if you do take one most of the electronic parts are unusable because serial number's must match the cars computer's list so most thieves leave them alone, the pay off is not worth the effort.
Now here is a thought maybe in the near future as our body and interior parts become hard to get scrapped XF's will more valuable and that could result in XF's getting stolen more often.

 

MB cars are hard to steal. But not impossible.
If one leaves their keys in the car, it can be stolen.

I had a policeman rom a very small town on HWY I70 called me once and ask how long I intended to store my 420 SEL in the town's commuter parking lot.

"What are you talking about?" I reponded.
"Mr. Rauscher, do you have any idea where your car is?" he asked with a giggle.

"Last time I saw it the thing was parked at St Peter's garage. They are doing some work on it."

"I suspect they got it fixed 'cause it's been here in Foristell for about two weeks." Then he suggested I come get it before they towed it away.

Turns out my garage friend had been vandalized. Thieves came into his shop, grabbed keys and took off with cars. Joy riders mostly, as the cars were found abandoned all over the county. In the confusion of sorting it all out, he had forgot about mine.

Mine was driven hard. The formerly full 24 gal tank was empty and the tranny blew a few weeks later. When we pulled it out it was completely toasted.

Interestingly, the body had a new wax job, the interior was spotless with a new air freshener hanging from the mirror and a Guns and Roses tape in the deck.

So, it is possible to steal them. Having a key seems to help.

Well I like Guns and Roses but I think you got took on that deal I'm just sayin...

I hate theives.......

 

gas was almost $4.00 a gallon and the tranny was $3,500.00. (Insurance would not cover it)
I don't care much for G&R so yeah, I lost big.

Car did smell nice for a while.

Since we're driving out to Vegas after the St. Louis GTG next summer, the "Date Line" show about stolen vehicles in Vegas struck a nerve.
I completely agree, that as time goes on and it continues to get harder and harder to find replacement parts for these cars, they will become a higher priority for car thieves to strip em.
I've been really lucky during the last 43 years of car ownership.
While I was at work I had a factory "under dash" 8-track tape deck stolen out of my Buick GS in 1969.
4 wheel well trim moldings stolen off a Cuda in a school parking lot in 1982.
One wheel cover taken off my Wife's 98 Beetle in a grocery store parking lot.
I guess nobody ever wanted any of my cars, thankfully.
Well, at least I don't have to worry about anybody stealing my hood.
There will be security at the Hotel in St. Louis........won't there be?

 

This wouldn't stop thieves across the Pond. They just break into your house at night and steal the keys. If they can't locate them, they wake you up with either a gun or a baseball bat staring at your face. This is quite rare but does happen.

It hasn't happended to me personally but I know people who have been through this type of ordeal. The cars in question were Mitsubishi Evolutions which I personally believe are being stolen to order and broken down into parts. The sum of the parts is worth more than the car itself so is quite lucrative to these low life scum of the earth creatures.

Many owners of EVO's have resulted to buying a big dog!

 

Ya know the scumbucket's that do stuff like that need to have their youknow shot or cut off and left to bleed out.... Since yall can't have a gun to protect yourself a big dog trained to hold the trash by the neck until the law gets there would be nice and as to what happened to his youknow well you don't know anything about his youknow but who is cleaning up the bloody mess he made?

I HATE thieves.......

Back on topic. I've never heard of any crossfire being stolen up here in WA.
