Default My Friday Canyon run... FAILURE!

So as i posted in the events section, my crew went to the mountains for some fun. My first run was amazing, the car out performed a Evo 9 and 2010 wrx wagon. All with the ESP/ABS disengaged, go big or go home. lol So anyways as the video shows and says, my brakes gave up on me and put me into the wall. After the first run they were glowing bright red and smoking. Of course I let them cool before the second run but i guess not enough. Good thing I have those AMG calipers and rotors just sitting in my closet waiting to be put on. As for damage, headlight, intake, driver side fender and bumper are gone. Steering is off, probably a tie rod or something but not too bad at all. Enjoy...

haha, so you put the ///AMG logo on even before your AMG calipers, which were your "justification" for the logo on your base model?

Sounds like the brakes locked up.
Do you think ESP might have saved ya?

Oh man, sorry to hear it. Once the stock pads get too hot they're not the same and thats what I think happened. The pads. When the fluid boils the pedal goes to the floor. So put high temperature fluid and a street strip pads on the car, even with the bigger better set up you could have the same problem if you don't. I hope you can get the car looking like new again without too much trouble.

Yea, Definitely throwing the bigger set on with better fluid and ceramic pads. And the ESP is amazing in this car so it probably would of saved me but I decided that I wanted the full feel of the car, that's what i got.

That's too bad. Right before christmas, Someone backed into my XF. Luckily they only skinned the paint from bumper. During the inspection, the adjustor found a couple of broken clips on the grill. He added a new grill to the repairs (just to be nice). Well, the Chrysler body shop said there were no new grills or used grills in the United States. Needless to say, I didn't get a new grill, just repaired clips.
I hope you have better luck getting parts.

Skyshadow,

Sorry about your mishap, but...it appears you all were driving on public roads at a speed that outran your headlights. You drove it so hard your brakes were glowing red.... Those speeds, at night, with no brakes?

Thank God you are OK (and that there wasn't anyone coming at you in the other lane), but consider taking it to a track day when it's fixed. They have them at the California Speedway and Willow Springs. There you can really wring out the car and see what it can do in a controlled environment.

SRT, We run in like groups of 5 and the lead car keeps to his lane and looks for on coming traffic.

Sorry to hear about the mishap, but the dangers of racing at night like that increases the rate of an accident immensely. You are a lot braver than I ever have been. Good luck.

Hey now, don't lump all 22 year olds in the same category with the OP.
At 22, I wasn't dumb enough to drive like his video shows.
If you can't keep it on your own side of the double yellow lines, you have no clue how to drive, and shouldn't be on the road.

Has he learned a lesson?
Nope, not according to his posts so far in this thread.

The fact that he even has the gall to post up a video of his own stupidity is simply amazing. And to top it off, he uses this sentence:

That followed by this is epic:

I'm not sorry if anyone thinks I'm being harsh.
Driving like this on public roads is stupid, selfish, and gets people killed all the time.

Grow up before your family has to bury you, or you wind up causing someone else to get buried instead of you.

preface: stop street racing before you kill yourself or someone else.

That said, this instance interests me from an analytical perspective - specifically, I've never seen an XF pushed like this on a downhill course. The car seems to be totally stock, brakes and tires, and it shows the limits of the car in stock form when driven too quickly on corner entry.

By the way, based on the behavior of the car (oversteer/tail-out on the left hander ) I think your issue was less brake failure and more entry speeds that were too high - the last turn before the crash seemed to cement it. It looked less like you were following the line and more like you were trying for a *****-to-the-wall pass against the car in front of you (a catch-up-as-fast-as-you-can mentality.)

Racing on a closed road course gives you valuable racing experience that you can't get on the street. The reason is that street racing is largely "follow the leader", while road racing is "drive the perfect line". The difference between the two is that "follow the leader" usually leads to hot entries/crashes/death, while "driving the perfect line" encourages form, because going too fast into a corner causes you to deviate from the perfect line.

... Cause that makes it ok

I do feel bad though. For the car.

Glad the repairs weren't anything major.

Woody,I see what your saying but my age has little to do with it. Stop stereotyping...

Bladecutter, calm down dude... live your life a little. what you call stupid I call exciting and what you call careless I call courageous. As for hitting another car on a back country mountain road at 1am with a lead car running 1/2 ahead on comm. is really unlikely. BUT, I see what your saying.

Sonoronos, Thanks for the advice. And the car isnt "totally stock.." far from it

Special thanks to SRT SIX for giving me the great advice and trying to help out. Instead of blowing his fustration/anger nut all over my thread...

In about thirty more years you'll be saying the same thing to some "whipper-snapper" on this forum. It's funny how we all turn into our fathers with a little age. Sorry about the car... and I agree with SRT SIX, take it to the track, more room to play, in case you screw-up.

I hope you never get into an accident with another car doing this.. but in the unfortunate case that you do and some dies, I surely hope its you and not the passengers in the other cars. It helps to thin out the herd sorta speak..
