'04 Crossfire, 24K miles, failed emissions test!
Hi Folks. I recently purchased a sweet 04 Crossfire, with only 24K miles on it. The first thing I did was replace the radio with a Blaupunkt London MP48 so I could attach my iPod. That's the only mod that has been done to the car, the rest is stock. But I can't seem to pass the emissions test here in Oregon. Could it be something with the new radio? I couldn't get the Blaupunkt out of "Phone" mode until I disconnected the wires to the A2 socket in back of the radio. All the radio connection diagrams say that pin is either "unused" or for "reversing lamp signal." But the wiring diagram online says that the wires from A2 transmit from the radio to the "Data Link Connector."
Could replacing the radio, and removing that wire from the connector, have screwed up the Crossfire's computer? If so, how can I resolve this?
Thanks in advance...

Re: 04 Crossfire, 24K miles, failed emissions test!
Well, you need to tell us what part of your emissions test the car is failing?
Is the testing facility not able to connect to your car's computer?
Is the check engine light on?
Is it high in HC, CO, CO2, or NOx?
Is the car running rough?
What type of gas are you using?
When you had the emissions test done, how many miles before that was your last oil change?
BC.

Your car is put onto a diagnostic roller
The gas cap is removed, and hooked up to their machine to be tested
They hook up their machine to the OBD port on the car
The machine checks the car for any codes
Then the car is put into drive, and driven on a set of acceleration, deceleration, and cruising speeds as a screen shown the operator how fast to accelerate the car, and during that time, the exhaust is pumped into a sniffer that feeds the diagnostic machine.
At the end of the run, you are then handed a printout that shows how much of each type of pollutant your car is putting out, and what the ranges are that your car needs to be between, plus they also let you know if you passed or failed.
If I can locate one, I will post one from my Porsche that was taken back in February.
Its actually pretty cool to know what the car is actually doing.

Re: 04 Crossfire, 24K miles, failed emissions test!
Thanks for all the help, everyone. Here's the resolution: When the dealership disconnected the battery to do some other work (after trying to diagnose a TPM code), they did not complete the "drive cycle." So when the DEQ computer was plugged in, the car would not communicate. Since the car wouldn't "talk" to the DEQ computer, it was failed.
Solution: Drove it back to the dealership, and they completed the "drive cycle" process and zeroed out the codes. Passed the next day. Phew!
MikeR: Thanks for your offer. I live in Tigard. Question: Do you know anything about the stock non-nav radio? I just replaced mine with a Blaupunkt London MP48. I had to disconnect the wire that attaches to post A2 in the back of the receiver, or it would constantly be in "phone" mode. That wire seems to be an "SCI Transmit" line to the Data Link Connector. Any idea what it's for?

The London MP48 was a plug and play for me in my base coupe. I didn't mess with any wires. I just unplugged my stock radio and plugged it into the London PM48. Simple as that. My guess is you don't have to mess with any wires either.
Re: 04 Crossfire, 24K miles, failed emissions test!
FYI, I had a cold miss and it set a code. No problem, I reset the code with my reader.
NOT SO FAST..........Reset a code the drive cycle has to be run in and that can be up to a 100 mile drive. So if your going for emissions the crossfire has to be driven a long time. I had gone back 3 tries till all the sensors were reset. Watch clearing codes before inspection, Woody. Enjoy
