I may have to sell - sob, sob - my X-Fire!!
I am leaving the country and will probably have to sell my new (since July) SSB X-Fire! Boo-hoo! :x
.
Can anybody give me leads on where to find out the value of this wonderful 6 month old car with 5,100 miles on it?
.
Probably won't sell it 'til June or July so it'll be a year old and will have 10,000 miles, but I would like to get an idea of what it's CURRENTLY worth out in the marketplace.
.
I live in the Wash, DC - Baltimore area.
.
I will deeply appreciate ANY good info and/or advice!
.

selling your car
That's too bad! Oh well, when you come back, maybe you can get the new 330 hp model.
You may be breaking new ground in terms of value. Unfortunately, regionally at least new Crossfires are selling for under $30K (here in Maryland, and I've heard Carmax in Atlanta has them for $29K, and one guy on another board says Carmax in Orlando has them listed for just over $28K, although no such price shows up on the web site).
Rumor has it that lower mileage cars than yours are bringing $25K at auction.
I do know that many, many dealers are now selling the cars in the very low $30's, so by the time you're ready to sell yours, a year old with 10K, and right about the time the new model comes out, you may be looking at a $20K car. Hopefully better, you really never know.

Good News and BAD News!
I did sell my XX-FIRE for a bit more than some thought was likely.
At almost 15 months with 12,400 miles, I got my reduced asking price of $26,775. I kept the luggage!
And for Father's Day, our oldest son gave me the Crossfire from Sharper Image that has the CD player and AM/FM radio/clock. It's neat: the radio/clock dial is in the windhshield and the bumper slides out as the CD tray. The headlights and rear lights come on when you play it. Not as much fun, but a wonderful memento and reminder.
I had to sell since I am leaving the country and......... because I paid sticker to get the first one in the area, I was "upside down" and had to come out of my pocket.

All in all, it was worth it.
I figure - with monthly payments and my payoff - I enjoyed the car for about $900 a month. Expensive fun, but worth it. I go into my sunset years with fond memories of cruising in my Crossfire with my sweetheart of 42 years beside me.
I'll check in with y'all from time to time and I appreciate all the information.
I really regret that I missed the Crossfire assemblage at Skyline Drive. That would have been so cool.
Keep cruising Crossfires!!
Adios!

P.S. Newspaper ads in the DC area brought no serious inquiries, but cars.com and patience did. At the end I had two serious buyers. I told them both about this forum. The unsuccessful one called me tonight for info. He just leased a '04.
Anywhere Nice?
Yes, you COULD say "nice"...
A semi-tropical paradise with NO hurricanes :!: , politically and economically stable, safe and with great infrastructure (roads, electric, Internet access, Dish Network, etc.), discounts on everything for Expats, no US tax (for US citizens) on the first $80,000 of business income earned there if you live there full time - as we will be doing.
We bought a four bedroom (including one in a separate unit) house with no heater and no A/C - 'cause they aren't needed in the near-perfect climate. It's on almost an acre - beautifully landscaped - in the mountains with banana, cashew, papaya, apple-banana, peppers and mangos growing on it and a brook on the edge of the property. If we wanted a live-in maid who shops, cooks, cleans, washes and does windows, it would cost $130*.
From our hammocks on the veranda we have a view of gorgeous valleys, majestic mountains and the Pacific Ocean. We're about 25 minutes from the beach and a Fazio-designed golf course. It's a little over an hour's drive (mostly on four-lane divided highway) to a big modern city with skyscrapers, great restaurants, at least three jazz clubs :!: , casinos, super-modern malls, etc.
All of this for about half of what we sold our house for in Maryland - plus a low cost of living and first class health care to top it off!!
If you're interested in more info, I'll put you in touch with our real estate agent - an American expat, from North Carolina, who's lived there for 20+ years. He's the best!
Oh, I forgot to mention where it is, didn't I.....

Why not take it?
Combination of factors: practicality and avoiding being an ostentatious Gringo/Yankee.
We're going to be living in the mountains and we'll need an SUV. There's a great one that's sold there as well as in Great Britain - the Rexton. Mercedes engine/drive train/chasis, Italian design and Daewoo manufacturing. Very nice. We'll probably get one of those.
Are you familiar with it, Bob?
So you narrowed it down heh?

Furthest West I have been (from North to South) is Toronto & Niagra/Chicago/Orlando.
Best of luck whereever it is.

Good luck in Panama. Is is true they are going to build another canal to take those enormous container ships which can't get through the existing canal?
Thanks for the info on the Rexton, Bob. :!:
It's badged in Panama as Ssangyong, also. Top of the line - leather, wood grain trim, side airbags, etc. - goes for $28,000 there.
The Rexton name has a decidedly English sound to it - for American ears, anyway. How does it strike you?
What I've heard re: canal is that the newly-elected President will be deciding shortly to go forward, or not, with a "widening" of the canal (which itself is an engineering "miracle") to accommodate ships larger than the "Panamax' variety.
Take care,
Bill

Hey there. I just went in not to long ago to trade my crossfire on a GTO. Ended up not doing it due to a tad loss of income, the payment with out the negative equity would have been 372 .Makes me wish i didnt buy the crossfire. Oh well. But they gave me 23k for trade just to make the deal and i owe 29k. So looks like I'll ride out the term, not like i have a choice. But he did say and ive seen them at an auction a 04 with 1500miles on it went for 19,400. I'm in the Chicago area. That was a price from the dealer not a buy figure. He said most of the Chrysler dealers didnt even want to make an offer because they are so hard to sell. One dealer said No, not interested still have 10 new 04's to get rid of. So it was very hard to get that money for it. My Xfire only had 1200 miles on it at the time. These crossfires hold there value worse than a mustang and almost as bad as a taurus. Guess I'll just have to learn from my mistakes and not buy a underpowered car. Well i can't sell mine nor trade it in to get rid of it. I can always hope for lemon law or it may just all of a sudden set on fire. That would be a good day. Oh retail on 04 with less than 10k are going for 25k or less. Little more info than you wanted, but when i give, i give big  Good luck.
