Default hood won't close all the way

Is there something obvious I should check? The hood is staying in the position that it is in when you first pull the hood release cable. So since it is still sort of locked, it's not going to fly up on me (I hope) but it obviously wobbles when I drive.

I don't think anything is in the way of it. I'd rather not take the grill off to get a better look, although if all else fails I will.

Anyone have any ideas?

don't know if you have already tried this, but i would try pulling the release lever again and going through every step again...

there might be a slim chance you "latched" it close without the hood in there and the lock that keeps it all the way down is actually preventing it from closing all the way, so pull the release mechanism in the car again and see if that works...

I wouldn't drive either too far or too fast with the hood that way. I've seen more than one car with the hood fly open on it.

Do not drive it. I saw a car when the hood had opened, it was wrapped over the windshield and roof, not a pretty sight.
Why won't it shut? maybe the stop bumpers are too high, doubtful as I presume it was OK until recently.
Have you had the air filter off and it is not down fully in place? Check hood by seeing if it will push down to the fully closed position but not latch.
Obviously the secondary safety latch is working, if someone inside the car pulls the release can you see the primary latch move, it would appear to be in the fully open position now. I have had it happen due to rust and lack of lubrication, but on your car I doubt that is the reason, but who knows.
Check the cable actuation and see that the latch striker and latch are tight and not moved out of position.

This is what I was thinking. Also look for anything that you might have left under the hood like a tool or something.

It ended up being the bolt between the horns was off. So when the hood closed, instead of latching, it just pushed the latch down.

thanks for the helpful comments though

We aim to please, but what bolt are you talking about between the horns?

Maybe I didn't describe it too well (and for all I know it may have supposed to have been a rivet).

As one who has had a few hoods fly up...glad you didn't have to experience it....never mind the cost of replacing the hood, hinges, etc...my last jeep, I put hood pins on...just in case...so far, the xf has escaped that mod...

I had a similar problem with mine when I first got it. The dealer adjusted the two stand post with rubber bumpers on top (one on each front comer of the hood). They screw up and down for adjustment.
