Default Tough Choice

I have to say I'm ahuge Crossfire fan and a relative actually works for chrysler, but can anyone tell why I should get a Crossfire when the Z has the Crossfire beat in almost every performance category. Don't take this the wrong way, I'm just going by the numbers. I still love the crossfire.

I would offer these thoughts. The Crossfire is a very sophisticated looking car...classic in appearence and precise in performance and handling. The Z is a "Fast and Furious" car...trendy...not necessarily timeless...this is how I view the car. :-)

Cheebs.... It all depends - do you like attention - or don't you? If you like attention and want to have a unique experience - there is no question - you have to buy the Crossfire. If you are an escaped convict and don't want anyone to see you - buy the Z!!!

Just today, I had to stop at Kmart with my girlfriend. This 16-17 year old kid was on the phone with one of his friends. I park the car and this kid was like "Oh my god, what the hell is that!" and "Dude, I can't believe what I'm seeing." and I could hear him talking to his friend on the phone until I got in the store. I come back out 15 minutes later and hes still on the phone taking to his friend about my car. I've had awesome reactions to the car before, but this was one of the best. The only way I can describe the look on this kids face is a look of awe. Then we went to the mall, I park the car, and EVERY car that passes, ALL of the passengers AND the driver just turn their head as they pass the car and most of the cars will actually stop to look at it. Trust me, you are going to get a lot more attention in this car than a 350z. I love the 350z, and yes the 350z is faster. I have a lot of respect for the 350z. I browse their forums all of the time, and you know what alot of their posts are about? Crashing their cars. Many people are buying the 350z and they simply don't know how to handle that fast of a car. I'm not saying that makes the 350z a bad car, but 2 years from now insurance for it will be through the roof, and every cop that sees you is going to pull you over. When I was looking at cars, I was looking at the 350z, the G35 and the Crossfire. When it came time to make my decision, I chose the Crossfire, mainly because the car is all about being classy. It is quick when it needs to be, it will out handle just about everything on the road (except for an Elise Kusheen :wink, it is the sexiest car on the road right now, and the damn car is just classy. I think that about sums it up.

Don't be fooled by numbers alone!

Take a test drive with the 2 car's, then you know what best suits you.

One thing is sure (for me) the looks on the X-fire can't be beaten by the z.

grtz,
Nean
I know when you have driven them, you make the right choice 8)

I'm not going to try to "sell" you on the Crossfire. If the Z looks and feels better to you. You should buy the Z. I didn't need anyone to convince me to get my Crossfire. I saw the road test on Speed TV then went and saw one and once I sat in it.... It was all over except the paperwork. That took anot an hour and a half and I drove the car home.

The last autocross I entered the car in there were 3 350Zs, 1 RX8 and 4 Porche Boxers. I got beat by 2 Boxters and none of the rice burners. You have to remember to turn off the Traction/Stability control. Then the car really wakes up in the corners. My guess is that in the tests, that have been reported in magazines, they have left the Traction/Stability control on.

Default numbers? what numbers?

I don't know what numbers you're looking at that has the Z ahead of the Crossfire in almost every performance category. The track tests I've read have a much different set of numbers, see R & T in October.

The only two categories the Z consistently beats the Xfire are 0-60 and quarter mile times. But look at those numbers closely, ALL of the Z's accelaration advantage comes in the 0-60 sprint, by the end of the quarter the Xfire is usually closing the gap by half. Most reports on the two cars (separately) say one of the Z's weaker spots is it's mid range grunt, which is one of the Xfire's strong points.

In handling, I've never seen a Z pulling more g's that an Xfire in skidpad tests, most having the Xfire either edging or outright beating the Z, even the Track version.

Braking is NO contest...stopping distances in the Xfire are far shorter than the Z.

If the accelaration/quarter mile times are THE main performance figures important to you...save a LOT of money, skip the Z or Xfire, and get the new Dodge Neon turbo in the low '$20'sK. It beats both by far.

If you want fast AND better handling than either, and still cheaper than an optioned Track Z or Crossfire, get the Subaru WRX STI, at $32K, it's currently the best overall performer available for under $50K, of course that will change when the Lotus Elise hits next year.

Like somebody else said, go drive the cars and buy the one that feels best to you. The performance differences are measured in tenths of seconds...differences you will NEVER experience on the road unless you're a red light drag racer....

Never did like those sideways door handles on the Z.

Default Thanks All

Thanks to everyone for their reply's so far. I have to agree that the crossfire's styling is revolutionary, and there have been a few complaints about the Z's interior and styling. I'll get back to when I make my decision. Thanks again.

Hello,
It all depends on what you like. When I look at the crossfire I see a car the will look contemporary 20 years from now in the same way an e-type Jag does or any SL Mercedes. This is the type of car you can drive while wearing a tuxedo or a jogging suit. The performance comes in where you actually use it unless you drag race. The class in which this car is done in far exceeds anything for under 80,000 dollars. If you can see yourself in a fast and furious car go Z, however if you could see yourself in something more sophisticated a la Porsche or SL Mercedes, buy a Crossfire.
