Default What's the going rate for a new Crossfire key?

My dealership quoted me $149 this morning for a new key, and I seem to remember that they should be closer to $100, but I can't find the old posts.

Anyone know what a good price for a new Crossfire key is these days?

One week ago tomorrow I picked up a new key from Ferman Chrysler in Lutz Florida. Took only 3 days to come in. Cost $172 including tax, cheaper than other dealerships had quoted me. All they needed was the VIN and proof of ownership, along with payment over the phone via creditcard when I ordered it.

I picked it up in the Parts Dept, and walked outside. The remote would not work at first. So I unlocked the car with the key and started it up. Everything worked fine after that, no problem.

I just received mine from remotes and keys.com and paid $141. Took it out of the box and it worked to my amazement.

First, only buy them from a dealer because they are laser-cut based on VIN. Secondly, expect to spend $130-140 for the key, but avoid the "programming charge" by following the instructions on this forum -- it's about a 2 minute job. I had to buy a key for my SRT6 (it only came with one) and my son had to buy one for his 2007 because he "lost" one.

good deal glad to hear

I think sticking with the dealer doing it for you is the way to go.

Thumbs down Re: What's the going rate for a new Crossfire key?

Well-
my car is only a week old (to me)...and my beautiful wife already lost the other key (she HAD to have on her keyring)

Dealer quoted us what sounds to be about the same $150...

But since we have no idea where the 2nd key is, do I also want to have my remaining key's code "blocked"/canceled or something to make the missing one useless??? Saw that on another post- and I'm a bit confused on what to do!!!

I just purchased a new key yesterday from the dealer here in Orlando for 152.98 (after tax).... but I thought it was odd I was quoted $178 on the phone. I wonder if it depends on the person working and how much they wanna rip u off? lol. He said it will take 5 to 10 business days.

Just a side note: The dealer had like a car parked diagonally like every 3 or 4 spaces.. Kinda freaked me out to see it so desolate.

I found the cheapest way to get a key is through one of the online dealers that sells parts over the internet and mails them to you. I actually used one in my own town and it was a lot cheaper getting it through the mail than going down to the parts counter at the same dealer. All you do is supply the VIN and prove you are the owner and they send you a key cut with transponder matched to your car and you can program it in the car. As far as the lost key I guess its a personal decision on the risk of someone using it on your car. I don't know if the dealer can furnish a new key that would program car differently so old key would no longer work. OF course you would have to reprogram the existing key, too.

Any new key is not going to automatically delete the existence of an old key from the system. The dealer would have to connect to the car's security system and remove the entry for the old key's transponder. I would question if they are even able to do this. My guess is that most are not.

Sounds like my best bet with regards to the lost key is to just hold my breath and hope it's long gone...

Then get a new spare key to have via an actual dealer!

THANKS ALL!

Yes the Key is very expensive and will be ordered fo your vehicle already programmed it isbest to have the old key blocked in the wireless module how ever the key is self will still work you may have to replace all key cylinders and locks if you suspet a possible brake in
