Question XFs' prices going back up?

I just sold the 2000 car that my 2005 XF replaced! So my net cost for the XF was only $4.5K.

Watching the prices on eBay, Craiglist, etc. since I bought mine about a month ago, it seems that the great deals are now mostly gone. Anyone else notice this too? Maybe the most "motivated" sellers have finally cleared theirs (or lost them), and the current round of sellers are willing to hold out for ~$5K more.

Prices in my area have gone up, too. Cars that used to be $12k are now $14k.

I've noticed the same thing too. And the good SRTs are becoming harder and harder to find.

I bought my ROadster for $18k 5 weeks ago (see my signature).

If this IS the case, it's the first time I ever timed ANYTHING right in my life. BUT, my car could be worth $40K, and it would STILL be found sitting in my garage!!! I got it, you can't have it. PERIOD.

Good for you. Sounds as though you picked a winner.

Yea, and all that talk from me about "I'm not driving it... I'm keeping it new...."

We'll see how that works out for me!

I've had my SRT for over 2 years and I just hit 1,600 miles.

(Of course, I live in Minnesota which means the car only gets driven a few months out of the year.)

Interesting to see prices going up . . . . well, in my mind, with what is going to hit the economy later this fall or early next year - hang on it is going to be a BUMPY ride !!! Prices on the cars will definitely come back down ! . . . just wait . . .oh yee of little faith. . . . . sorry, but there are just too many outstanding factors that are like waiting for the other shoe to drop, on the economic front . . . the storm is not that far away. . .

Just my two cents worth . . .

Mark

PS - White04XF . . . love that quote from "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" . . . . yeah Hunter S. Thompson

well, I would love to believe it, but, I don't see that happening any time soon...Mine has depreciated at a normal car rate, so I'm not complaining, but I wouldn't sell her for what's she's worth now...so, I quess she is going to stay for awhile...actually, can't match the HP< for the $$$ on anything else rt now...it will out run most new sports cars right now...for the $$$$...besides, I would miss you guys....

"for the other shoe to drop, on the economic front . . . the storm is not that far away. . ."

My best guess is another era of "stagflation", like Jimmy Carter's. With high inflation, the price of hard assets, like good cars, should go up. But the value of your cash and cash-like savings will go down.

So ... I've been stocking up on hard assets, like this XF. And other things for getting through such times.

Others are recommending investing in gold and the like. I particularly enjoy those who've said "and invest generously in lead!"

I have plenty of lead LugNut, but will never have enough gold...as far as investing, I lost half my little portfolio, but, if you look hard, right now, I am gaining some of it back...just as soon as I recoup, 30%...I'm moving it...taking the safe mode for awhile...but, my little car is staying, I really enjoy not having a fortune in car that will out perfom most out there...

It appears that most used car prices are on the rise in general.
I track the values of my cars every couple of months to spot any trends (yes, I am lame - lol).
Since 10/08, per KBB and NADA, my 4Runner has gone up $4k in value, the SRT6 has gone up over $2k, and my Accord has stayed basically the same.

Eventually these cars will hit rock bottom, pricewise. Are we there yet? Not sure.
