$4,000 cash back
Seems fishy to me (and probably not true). Considering the delta between MSRP and invoice is less than that... Get him to give you that in writing from DC and post it...
Oh well, $10K dealer cash back I could care less--love the Xfire (and I paid $750 over invoice).
Could have bought a G35 or 350Z that are bring recalled:
Nissan To Recall 2.56 Million Autos Worldwide; 1.02 Million In Japan
Thu Oct 30, 3:34 AM ET
TOKYO -(Dow Jones)- Nissan Motor Co. plans to recall a total of 2.56 million vehicles sold in Japan and overseas due to faults in the engines, the automaker said Thursday.
The firm expects to book a Y15 billion-Y16 billion recall charge this fiscal year through March, but it has no plans to downgrade its earnings outlook for the current year, it said.
Nissan will recall about 1.03 million vehicles in Japan and 1.53 million vehicles sold in the U.S. and other countries.
Japan's ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport said the number of vehicles Nissan plans to recall in Japan represents the country's second largest recall after the 1.04 million vehicles Nissan recalled in May 1996.
The automaker added that the recall is already factored in to its earnings forecast for this fiscal year through March.
In mid-October, Nissan said it expects a group net profit of Y495.0 billion for the full year, with an operating profit of Y820 billion and sales of Y7.450 trillion.
Nissan will recall 23 models, including the Sunny (sold overseas as the Sentra), the Skyline (sold overseas as the Infinity G35) and the Fairlady Z ( sold overseas as the 350Z).
Of the 1.53 million vehicles to be recalled overseas, Nissan will recall 700, 000 vehicles in the U.S., 460,000 in Europe and the remainder in other Asian countries, the Middle East and other regions.
Some of engines installed in these vehicles may not start properly due to problems with the sensors needed to count engine revolutions.
The sensor is made by Hitachi Unisia Ltd., an auto parts maker wholly owned by Hitachi Ltd. . Nissan adds the sensor to its engines during assembly.
The two companies will check whether the sensor problem was caused when they were produced by Hitachi Unisia or when the engines were assembled by Nissan.

I'm with you...
...tex.
I got mine for $500 under MSRP. Same dealer is now $1500 under MSRP in the newspaper.
I'd love to have that much less invested in the car, but what the heck. Nothing I can do about it now, the car is fun, the wife loves it.
You can drive yourself crazy with the would've's, could'ves, should'ves.

I'm serious about buying a Crossfire. I've been evaluating it since June, but have resisted committing due to a couple of local dealers initally hardballing pricing & having 2 ebay auctions cancelled on me at the last minute after being the high bidder at below MSRP & meeting reserve.
The Forum has been great for feedback. I'm concerned about some the pricing issues & negative comments regarding the sound system display, cost of maintenance, ie., $95 oil changes, poor dealer service, misc mechanical clitches, etc. My biggest concern is if Chrysler is committed to this vehicle.
I would like some feedback from existing Forum owners regarding my concerns & if you are still satisfied with your purchase or would you have waited until the next model year to confirm Chrysler's committment & fix of some of the problems.
Thanks

I love the sound system! The engine holds a lot of oil and can only use Mobile 1...thats why it is a little more expensive for service. Remember it is a Mercedes. Since Diamler controls Chrysler, I don't see any future problems. My car has been perfect...Wife and I love it! There will always be some production glitches. Also, my dealer has bent over backwards to get me any info. or goodies I have asked for. At least personal experience has been very pleasant. Good luck.
Judy:
I had one of the first ones back in July--and would not trade it for the world. Like anything mechanical it will have potential issues. But after one minor o'ring leak, mine has been problem free. I came out of a Lexus and was very hesitant to buy a Chrysler. This car is great and I really enjoy it. I use it as my everyday car, so it gets used often. If you want major HP then look elsewhere, but 215 is plenty for me! Yes, the radio you cannot read in the sun light, who cares--get another one. If that is the worst thing about the car then so be it. Go get one and enjoy it!

Dude, it sounds to me that you guys are complianing about stuff that would happen with any car! No matter what radio you have, if the sun hits it at a certain angle, you're going to have glare. Deal with it. If you're going to use your brakes, your going to have brake dust. Esspecially with 18 and 19 inch, seven-spoke rims. If you don't like it, buy a different brand of brake pads. If you pay $95 for an oil change... Shame on you! If you're a man, you should be changing your own oil anyway. It takes 10 to 15 minutes. If you have a problem with a dealer or mechanic, don't give him you business. There are not many mechanical elements of the crossfire that are unique to it alone. Therefore, any general mechanic should be able to service the vehicle. Although I do agree the dealers should be properly trained for all new DC vehicles.
Every comment I read in this forum about DC is negative. I love DC. I love MOPAR. I'm so happy they are comming out with new exciting cars and trucks. Viper, 300c, 300c touring, Neon SRT4, Crossfire, SRT10 RAM, HEMI! Could you ask for anything better?
My point is, any car you buy, be it a Lexus, BMW, or Mercedes, it's not perfect. I bought a new BMW 745iL last spring, and have already had it back to the dealer twice. It's not perfect, but I love it. Stop being so nip-picky!
P.S. Now come the angry responses....

$95 oil changes is just a factor of 8 quarts of 0W40 motor oil. Comes with the territory. Tires are expensive too by the way, so is the power steering fluid and probably the darn plugs. Any car with 0W40 requirements, 19" Z rated tires, you're going to have the same cost issues, this isn't a Honda Accord, try closer to a Honda S2000.
As for poor dealer service, go look for a good dealer.
My dealer is exceptional and Chrysler's support behind the Crossfire was clearly visible to me when I had a stumper of a problem when I took delivery.
Both the dealership, the regional Chrysler office and DCX headquarters in Detroit and Germany stepped up to the bat and I now have a great car that I'm enjoying.
Phones were ringing, mechanics were working and bottomline, car is working perfectly and they subsidized my inconvenience when I was without the Crossfire.
Hell, my mechanic got a call from Germany!
My first car was an Eagle Vision TSi, I've since had 2 different 300Ms, and now I have 3 Chryslers in my driveway as you can make out in my user icon, my current '01 300M, '04 Pacifica and '04 Crossfire.
You can betcha that an '05 300 Hemi V8 will be on that driveway next year too.
Have I encountered problems with the cars, heck yeah, show me a car that never has problems and I'll show you either a really boring car or might I interest you in a bridge.
Are they perfect? No, Can DCX be better? Of course. Like give us a better radio display, get a better Web site for DCFS and get those stock prices back up.
But they have great design spirit, one of the best human-machine interaction designed vehicles in the market and cars that work while stimulating the senses.
As with everything, some people will have good experiences and some will have bad ones. Comparisons are best made apples to apples and even then, sometimes it is just plain hard to compare.

Is Rebate for real
Is this 4,000 Dealer rebate for real? I am becomming very interested in the Crossfire ( Drive a PT Turbo now ) I went to dealership just to look at it today, I was impressed with how sharp this car looks. I didnt drive it cause If I do ( well you know ) anyways I did ask the salesperson about the dealer rebate and he was not aware of this.
Thanks
Thanks
Kraz17 says "dealer cash", which can mean anything. There are no Chrysler programs at that magnitude and "dealer cash" could be a dealership thing or gimmic which might require you to finance with them at a whopper of an interest rate.
Officially, the margin on the Crossfire is under $4,000, which means that the dealer would lose money giving $4,000 back, especially if you include the $8,500 the dealership has to spend to tool up to support the vehicle.
They could be "robbing Paul to pay Mary" just to move the vehicles but I'm just speculating here.
MSRP or even slightly under (500-1,500) has been proven to exist and IMO, more practical to base your planning on.

Oil changes, et al
My car goes in for first 'break in' oil change Monday w/1700 on the clock.
Not thrilled about a $100 +/- oil change, but...I've spent my share of time under MG's, Hondas, Mustangs, Blazers, Datsun's, Lotuses (Loti?), Opel's, Pontiacs, etc. doing that shade tree mechanic thing.
For all my cars now, the cost of an oil change, even at $100 for the Xfire, is more than reasonable. I guess as I get older I place a higher value on my own sweat equity.
I'm as frugal as the next guy, but I know that buying a car like this isn't like maintaining a Honda Civic. I'm more than happy to drop the car off, hopefully have the maintenance done by someone who knows what they're doing (I've already been contacted by phone, at work, by the tech who has been assigned to my car to confirm the service and to answer any questions or concerns I have..and to see if there are any specific 'little' things he'd like me to check out while the car is there).
Nice touch.
