I just bought an '05 coupe with 22Kmiles. When I go to fill it, the backpressure (or backsplash) keeps shutting off the gas pump. I have tried holding the filler at different angles and attempted to make the fuel flow very slow, but nothing works for me. Is this a common problem? I haven't seen any comments about it.

 

You might do a search, but I don't remember reading this subject here.

I know in my two years of experience I have not had any problem filling this tank.

No problems here.
If the gas pumps have nothces to lock it on, try a lower notch.

 

some pumps are more sensitive than others. I had this problem with my other car, I just go to a different place and no problems.

Thanks for the inputs everyone. The previous owner told me to expect it and I have been to 4 different gas stations since I bought my XF with the same results. Now that I know it's not a common problem, I will start looking for a clogged vent somewhere or maybe a damaged (kinked) fill tube.
