Default thinking of selling XF and buying '06 STi... what do you guys think.

just looking for experience with people getting rid of their XF's and how they felt about it... because i have a feeling that i will miss it A LOT and end up just selling the STi and buying an SRT-6. you just cant beat the exclusivity of these cars, not to mention their looks. so what do you guys think? should i upgrade to an SRT-6 or go STi? my main gripe with the SRT is the automatic... i just cant bear the auto any longer i think. also it would be very cool to have 4 seats....

opinions appreciated.

Hmm heres what I think..

The STi:

Pretty neat sedans. Have tons of room for upgrades and even room for four people to sit semi-comfortably. The car has great handling. Overall its a powerfull machine that means business... However I would argue it is a car that has many look alikes, some of which dont just compete with it... they top it... Although they have good room for upgrading, you have to keep in mind that this is a V4 and even a 87 Grand national with its big block 3.8L V6 blows from time to time with limited upgrades... So if you want to upgrade this puppy, get ready to dish out the dollas. That being said, if you know what your doing and you dont abuse it, then your probably going to have a blast! And theres no doubt you have the ability to go faster in this car than the SRT6...

The SRT6

A great yet underrated sports car. Originally a concept car, now a car of the present. While its design can be controversial to different people, theres no doubt that its is extremely unique, boasting less that 3000 SRT6s. It, like the STi, has great performance on and off the track, and also really means business. However, there is less room for upgrades with such a small supercharger. If your wanting to run in the 10's, you better get ready to dish the dollars big time. Also, the car, as we all know, has 2 seats. And the interior, while many enjoy it, can be less desirable by others.. personally i like it =). Repairs on this car can also put you down big time if you dont have an extended warranty. But so far, the biggest problems have been the coolant pump, which is reasonably cheap to fix. But basically your getting a Mercedes for the price of a Chrysler, and lets face it, This car has a personality of its own, less can be said of the STi, atleast from my POV.

Sooo my personal conclusion... Well strangely enough, when looking at cars.. the STi was one of the cars I was seriously considering... But the ricer seeming look (pleasseee nobody attack me for this sentence lmao!), frankly ugly looking interior, and my personally worry about buying a missused one, i decided the STi wasnt for me.... The SRT6 on the other hand has a unique design, power that although is not as upgradeable as the STI, is nothing to laugh at, and the rarity of these cars is astonishing...

I hope this helped! both great cars, but SRT6 is just way too neat, nothing bland about it.

No car comes with a "V4" engine..................it has a "flat 4" aka "horizontally opposed" engine. The STi is a decent car that can be modded to make great power at great expense and with crappy reliability(I have many friends with those cars from highly modded to stock). The AWD does make for some very fun cornering and is easier to recover from if you lose control. I was never a fan of the looks of the car and in most people's minds it is looked at as a high school/college kid ricer car.

With the SRT-6 you will beat all stock STi's in a straight line. Also as mentioned you will have the exclusivity of owning a unique car that most know nothing about..............but will learn to fear.

My two cents............spend them wisely.

It's easier to just call it a V4 lmao. Alot of people don't understand what a horrizontally opposed engine is let alone how to program their universal garage remote. So for the sake of simplicity I just say V4, even if it isnt accurate.

And Moparr is right about the SRT6 stock will beat the new STis stock down the line, but as he said with the AWD, they will beat us around the corners.

I'm sure an STi will go fast, but they look like shopping carts with those big goofy looking spoliers on the back.

i think you have your answer......but traded my 06 Subaru Impreza 2.5i in for my 6. The Impreza was very nice, loved the all wheel drive. To be the base model it was pretty responsive....AWD I guess. With that said the STI probaly is sick then....but I will take my 6 anyday.

Before I bought my SRT, I was looking at the new Evo. Which falls in the same category as the STi. Although the STi and Evo are tuner cars, and can go very fast, they are usually driven by kids, they aren't as rare, and in my honest opinion don't look nearly as good. (Just my opinion, others are entitled to their's)

My advice, take the same route I did, go with the SRT now, it's a cheaper and better looking car, and you'll save yourself the time and money of coming to this conclusion 2 years from now.

my 2 cents.

Don't forget the quality issue also. The German designed and built engine vs the Japanese designed and built engine. Overall I would say the longevity would go to the German engine. Plus the chassis. After grading all the issues involved the SRT wins big time. By the way, the Germans invented the "pancake" 4 cylinder. VW anyone?

In the "looks" dept, the Subaru can't hold a candle to the Crossfire. I own an Outback and it is a great car..I live in snow country and it has impeccable manners. The Sti just looks cheesy to me. Tacked on spoilers, flares and scoops are usually tell tale signs of a boring design. Just one man's opinion.

My advise...buy the rice burner! You're not a Xfire person. If you were you wouldn't be asking the question. To get mine away from me, someone would have to come and physically take it and they had better have a very large gun. LOL

Xfireinva, what you're proposing to do is sell a very unique, and beautiful looking "Sports Car" for a higher performance "Sedan". By doing so, (in essence) some will say you're changing teams, playing for a different league, or simply becoming a "ricer". (No offense intended, I too own a Honda).
I understand the issue you have owning an "automatic "NA" car, I much prefer the 6 spd. in my 04 as well. But I think having an auto in a SRT6 would be an entirely different driving experience, and a compromise you would soon learn to live with.
I got my drivers license in Jan. of 1967, my first driving experience was right in the middle of the "Muscle Car Wars". Since all things are relative, what you're considering (to me anyways) is like trying to decide which Hemi car to purchase.
Hemmings Motor News: 1966 Dodge Coronet
or
70 Hemi Cuda
I think the decision is obvious. The practicality of having a back seat "pales" in comparison to owning a true "Sports Car". IMO

This is the truest statement made.

I went from an '07 Base Coupe to an '05 SRT6. I swore up and down to manual transmissions... but it was not as big of a sacrifice for me as I thought it would be when I went to the automatic in the SRT... especially with all the extra ponies under the hood... I can do almost everything I could with my N/A in my SRT.

I would go for an SRT6 over and STi anyday...unless it was a WRC spec STi...then I would just let it hang out in the same garage as my SRT6

I personally would choose an EVO IX over an STI of that year.

When push comes to shove, the EVO is a better drive.
