Default Ugh. Another speeding ticket.

The sneaky photo radar van got me last week, and mailman brought me some bad news today.

Something about this car makes me want to go fast!

I love my car and treat it better than anything I own. Keep it clean and sometimes while driving I even tell it how much I love driving it. Mostly because I am crazy and it seems more like I am talking to myself. But calling it a name just wierds me out. Something wierd about that. Especially when using a human name. It is not a person.

Anyway, our cars are cop magnets. Never had tickets or been pulled over as much as I have in the Crossfire. Not even in my Camaro! I personally think cameras on traffic duty is rediculous and should not be allowed. I think it violates privacy....

The cops in my town better not be driving on the wrong highway in the wrong city. They will be getting tickets. The cops in my town are the worst.

It just doesn't seem fair that there are no roads suitable enough to (legally) take full advantage of this car's capabilities!

Yep, that's pretty much how it works. The good news is that they know they can't prove that I was the driver, so my DL and insurance aren't affected. It's not much more than a cash grab. They got me for doing 63 kph in a 50 zone (38 mph in a 30 zone). That's $190 CDN.

LOL yeah there is something about these cars that does make ya wanna put ya foot down. Got done the other day $200 bucks and three points for doing 100km in an 80km zone *sigh* just not fair...the good thing though here in Australia the cops don't usually give a Crossfire a second look (aside from curiousity) for some reason, and I speak from experiance here, a rice burner picks up their attention way faster than any 'prestige' car that would usually be out of the price range of a young hoon. Police here stick like magnets to modified cars and the Crossfire, at least at the moment, is not usually that heavily modified so they leave us alone.

p.s. there's nothin wrong with givin ya car a name and yeah I'm guilty of talkin to her too

So far, so good for me (knock on wood). The only ticket I have ever had was in 1991 in my old Camaro (81 in a 55).

I got nailed for doing 11 over (you kidding me?) in Ohio on Interstate 70. For some reason the two Ohio drivers in front of me didn't get pulled over. I wonder if it had anything to do with the front Steelers license cover I have...

Also, for you police officers out there; is it normal operating procedure to ask a driver where he is going and THEN what business he has going there?

Just curious, this IS still America isn't it?

I was even polite.

I got two in two days back in last October, neither of them were for speeding and both were stupid...now I date one of the local officers, and she gets them to leave me alone for anything other than speeding.

Yeah, they have five of them in Illinois, romaing the state....Mostly in high traffice populated areas like Chicago. They just instituted them as of July 1st. They also just instituted that if, in Illinois, you are going 1mph over the speed limit in a construction zone it is a $300USD ticket...the second infraction in a construction zone... $1000USD and 90day suspension.

OUCH.

Sounds like a pure local fund raising event to me. Some states do construction zones right. They state that fines are double IF workers are present (which I totally agree with). Other states like Colorado will give you a ticket no matter if there are workers or not and will often leave construction zone signs up long after the project is over for more local fund raising opportunities.

The People's Republic of Denver tried to do the photo radar. Someone challenged it in court and won because these vans were not manned. Denver was forced to refund ALL photo radar tickets. They now man them to get around this issue.

Grand......
So the next time I head to the Chicago area I'll have to keep my eyes open for suspicious vans alongside the highway.
Itsky, sure does sound exactly like you mentioned - a pure cash grab. Here in this state the majority of any speeding ticket monies get dumped directly back into the local or county coffers. I'm sure it's not much different anywhere else you go in the states.
Construction sites, as long as there are workers present, I can perfectly understand.

white vans, sitting where everyone can see them...big flash when they take your photo. Even this old guy can see them long before they get your photo...just need to be aware they are out there in construction zones...I worry more about their airplanes in the Chicago area, especially Joliet, than the vans...big white shiny vans you can see from way off, planes, no...
