Question Hey Guys! Newbie here with some thoughts/questions!

Hello, I just registered here after having viewed the forums for a while as a guest. I am a young guy who is deciding on what his first car should be. I have always loved the Crossfire, since its conception in 2004. Now that I have finally come of age to get my own car, I obviously considered the Crossfire. After looking at used Corvettes, used Cadillac XLRs, the 2010 Camaro, and other sportscars. For whatever reason, I still have some attraction to the Crossfire, so I looked and found one that is the perfect one for me. It is a brand new 2008 Limited Coupe in Blaze Red. It is the 6 speed manual and has the premium 2 tone leather. I am trying to put the deal together with my dad, who is helping me pay for half of it, as well as the dealer on a price. If it comes together, should I go through with it? I know you all are die-hard Crossfire fans, which I appreciate, but is it honestly a good, reliable, and functional sports car. I understand that it is not cheap to maintain, but it supposedly comes with a lifetime powertrain warranty, and 36000mi bumper to bumper. Does it have any common problems? I assumed since it is a 2008 that the problems would have been worked out, but i am still cautious. How easy is it to get parts for it? Is there anything I should be aware of before getting myself into trouble with it? Also, I have rode in one before, and noticed how horrible the rear visibility was; how much does that affect your driving it? Any other thoughts are gladly appreciated. Thanks!

They are pretty good cars all around. You get used to the rear vision and learn to adapt. I always backed in when I could so I could drive out later. Who knows what will happen with Chrysler and all of our warranty's?
Common problems are hatch rattle, door rattle, and some have problems with starting and running. Should be taken care of for you though. Parts can take a while some time and repairs can take the dealers weeks. As long as you have the loner car option when you purchase this will be ok. Remember to ask for it or see if it is included.

If you set your mirrors so that you can barely see the car driving in your normal position so that if you lean a little bit either way you can see the side of the car... You pretty much remove 99% of the blindspots and rear visibility doesn't become hardly an issue at all.

Welcome action 03!I have an 04 limited with 54k miles. I have had a few problems with mine, but nothing that couldn't be fixed yet. If you can afford the extended warrantee before your factor one expires do it, its worth it. German parts can get expensive sometimes.

New tires and oil changes can get pricy. I think each car is different, some have no problems others have more. Its a roll of the dice. What ever you do don't ask if anyone has had problems with their cup holder!

Do it you will love this car!

First of all I want to welcome you to the forum.
This is by far the best place to find out about a Crossfire.

I have a 2004 with 45000 miles on it now.
Got it with 17200 a couple years ago.
First owner told me he never had a problem other than the need to replace a ignition switch.
I have had no problems at all and have done my own oil changes.
IMO very good car for the money and more fun than any other I have ever owned.

I love the Crossfire - but if you and your dad can swing a deal for a new 2010 Camaro - 2SS, 1SS or 2LT (in that order) with extended warranty...... You would at least be driving a new design model (All Crossfires are based on a MB platform that is now well over 6 years old) and the depriciation for a new "off-the-dealers-lot" Crossfire will be steep.

If you really like the Crossfire design - you can buy a low mile 2006 for under $14K and get the extended warranty.

Here we go with the "old MB platform". Don't want to attack you because you are correct (others might attack you but not me)... I just want to add my opinion on that. I would rather have an old tested and perfected platform than the first year of something new. But that is just me. Camaro's will be like Mustangs... a dime a dozen. One on every street! You want something unique and special, get a Crossfire. Besides, I saw a Camaro the other day and I will admit it looks like a beauty. I used to own Camaros and I would love to drive one again. From the quick look that I got, the camaro looks very similar to a crossfire.
