I thought I was the only one that wanted to do this haha! I'm probably buying my Crossfire tomorrow! and was thinking of hopefully having a custom roof rack made to handle a kayak.

Why custom?? Get the new 480 Traverse foot kit paired with the 1180 fit kit and any add-ons of course. But sit on tops such as mine are best carried upside-down on the rails as I have it. It's the strongest point. Thule and anyone else would testify.

OK so I FINALLY got everything together for my rack.... went with the Aero setup. Heard the standard bars make a lot of noise while driving. Only down side, I bought each piece off ebay and wound up with no end caps. No matter. I'll find them sooner or later. Still mounts PERFECTLY... with a little playing around, of course..... Thanks again drivethruecp for doing the legwork!!!

My wife and I have a tandem bicycle. Is there any way we could use the rack you guys described and attach a tandem unit to it? Thanks for figuring out a rack solution for the Crossfire!

what a hoot! you make me look like a saint! if my husband knew half of what i put in our cars behind his back. i tucked a huge floor rug between the seats of my xf and it hung out the back hatch - i did tie the hatch down. i agree w/you tho you gotta have a small footprint and some things just have to do double duty.

I don't see why not, but you would have to devise some "cradle" to hold the bike firm. I would also check the weight of the bike, make sure it's within the rack's limits.

So stoked that this page exists. Been surfing a lot more recently and about to buy a long board. Saw some universal roof mount kits and started thinking about how they would work on the XFs, lo and behold everyone else has been thinking the same thing. Might buy one and try it out or just grab that surfboard strap kit - looks pretty legit! I wonder how it'll fair on the highway...? Maybe I'll borrow the family Altima for the pick up. Will say, Crossfire's look dang good with a board/kayak on top!

I just bought a kayak this morning and hauled it home with my crossfire. I used a $30 set of Reese universal crossbars I bought from walmart and the foam you see is actually blue pool noodles that I plastidipped black and slid onto the bars for added protection. I also plastidipped the bottom feet of the crossbar mounts for a little more assurance it wouldn't scratch my paint. Works like a champ!
