The Siren Module has the dreaded "Cricket on Crack" syndrome.

It must be replaced. Semi-common problem.

I had the same problem...replaced under warranty. I have heard of other members replacing thiers on thier own for something like $100. The new sirein beeps when you lock and unlock the doors so alot of members replaced just for that.

You'll have to do a search for "cricket" and start reading. As I recall, you need a tamper-resistant TORX bit to remove it. It IS an alarm, after all!

It's mounted on the firewall under the plastic cowl.

I changed mine myself and its not very difficult and as far as the torx driver I believe its a T-30 but I'm not 100% sure. I didn't use a torx driver I used a pair of vise grips to grab the torx screw edges and it came right off on the first try and it didn't booger up the screw either. Also buy yourself windshield wiper removal tool(I bought mine at Advanced Auto for $6.00) it will make removal very simple and clean out your water drain compartments while you have it apart because if your car is outside most of the time you'll find all kinds of debris that can clog the drain lines and start to leak water inside the car where the blower motor vent is. I think the total time to take apart and put back together was about 45 minutes. Hope this helps, Pat

Doing it yourself is a piece of cake. If you can change out a battery you can do this job. I would guess the dealer would charge one hour labor plus parts of $125 to 150 or so. Get your new one ready before you remove the old one. Remember all sirens have a built in battery. Good advice was read the previous posts prior to doing the job.

Still trying to find cricket on crack. My siren has been weak for years no on my 04. I kind of liked not having the noise, but it seems to have progressed leaving me stranded at work yesterday. Yesterday the fob wouldn't open the car. Opened with the key and the alarm lights started. It didn't stop with the fob or inserting the key. When it stopped I started the car but it quickly died. Then it would not turn the starter at all. Saw in another post to remove fuse #9 to disable the domelight, horn and alarm. The light went off, but the horn and the alarm both still worked. Replaced the fob batteries, no help. Had no tools at work so I called a tow truck. He tried to jump it to no avail. At home I found a post and decided t follow the suggestion to take the 10mm to the negative and disconnected and reconnected the battery. I could not start now since the battery was low. Put on the charger for a few minutes and it started .Drove 38 mi to work where it restarted fine. Did not lock the car. 10 hours later it started and drove home fine. I am going to try replacing the siren next. So glad all of you are there to help figure out these issues. The local dealer quoted $8-900 to replace the SKREEM but it seems the siren is the problem from what I have read here in the forum. allmoparparts.com/oemparts/5124443AB has it for $144 plus shippeing. I'll call around town tomoro and see if someone can get it sooner of without shipping costs. We'll see.
