Default Is this sales-kid right?!

I went by my chrysler dealership yesterday to look atl an 08 thats been stagnant in their lot since last year. The sale-man (kid) told me 10k off the sticker with a lifetime warrenty=24k before taxes...uh ok. so I start to talk about crossfires and he says, "they were better when they first came out because they were built by mercedes but after like 05 chrysler took over the whole build and they are all chrysler". I just thought to myself, man...have I been misinformed?

That's funny but quite typical of Chrylser's lack of marketing and knowledge of what they had. You should have asked him to pop the hood. I'll bet you the serpintine belt has Mercedes stamped on it.
I'm sure Karmann would like to know about this too

This dealership has less than average sale people IMO but an excellent service dept with a trained crossfire tech. When I bought my car in mar 08, the kid knew nothing about the product...told me it had a tilt wheel, couldnt show me how to pop the hood, no info at all; the car sold itself.

My son is the gen manager at somersworth nissan, NH and has an impressive knowledge of their products. To bad Chrysler doesn't educate their people more

I have found few car salesmen that;
1) Know how to listen carefully to the customer to determine what they want or need
2) have a clue about their product.

They do know their way to the manager's office to get "approval even though they know he won't accept your offer."

Crossfires were all assembled by Kharman from mostly Diamler, AMG and European parts. The only thing you got with your car that was American made was the sales contract. And it likely, may have been printed in Canada.

Perhaps the yougnster was confused by the Sebring which has a similar hood and grill.

These "salesmen" ?
Had as much to do with Chryslers downfall, as their "management"?

When I took paperwork from my '70 Datsun 240Z to the local Nissan dealership to see if there were any recalls done on the vehicle (l had done the same when I had an '86 300ZX), a small gaggle of salesKIDS pored over the title, had little conferences amongst themselves, then very seriously informed me that a) the seller had faked the title since the VIN was not 16 digits long, and that they couldn't really help me since the car was a Datsun and they were a Nissan dealership (for those not in the know, Datsun changed their badges to Nissan circa 1984). This was around the time that Nissan came out with the 350Z and I recall all the hype about the 'continuation of a legend, Z car, blahblahblah...

It takes a lot to leave me speechless, but since these guys were at least polite and seemed sincere, I just walked out.

Wright a letter or an email to the "kid" and general manager explaining that they might sell more of them (if they have any) if they knew the product. Then give them the true facts.

That salespeople know nothing about the xf is really moot since the car was discontinued in 2008. An average dealer probably only sold 1-3 xf's these last few years, I can't see those guys having any $$$$ motivation to educate themselves about this car. A car salesman would usually be my last choice of information for any prospective vehical.

If that's not a dealership that's to be closed, maybe it should be. Stupid "KID".

I think he's right and that makes my 05 the last of the benz-builds and quite the collector item!

Any takers on a piece of history? Maybe some of you 06 and up guys? I'll even trade for an 06 SRT6, straight up no cash from the other party. You know you want to get rid of your SC sebring for a real Mercedes...

Actually, the belt on my 07 says Mercedes, but doesn't on my 08.

Having moonlighted at my local dealership a few years back, I can tell you, they will send you to school to learn about the products. This doesn't happen immediately, and you have to want learn once you go. The school was informative, and I learned a lot about the product. Many of the younger salesmen, would rather talk and take smoke breaks, laugh about the fact they were getting a 3 day vacation on the boss. Everone here knows, to be a successful salesman, you have to know the product and you have to listen to want your customer wants and expects first. I had a 4 rating the whole time I was there, and I was part-time...I could never have done that job full-time. Not for me. But it was fun helping out a friend for awhile. I am still treated like an employee everytime I walk in, and I still get my discounts.

it's the same thing at all dealerships most salespeople have no true knowledge of the cars they are selling, you get these automated responses from them, like well it's a pretty fast car or yeah this car is really reliable.

My wife really wanted a volkswagen eos for some crazy reason I think it's a very ugly car but that's what she was wanting so we go to the dealership to check it out and not one salesperson there knew how to operate the hard-top, I realize these cars are somewhat new but when the main selling point of a car like that is the fact that it's a hard-top drop-top and you can't get the top to go down wow.

5 days later they call me and say we figured out how to get the top to go down if you want to come in for another look, my reply sorry we just bought her a Chrysler Crossfire SRT-6 vert.

First off they were NEVER built by MB.
Secondly This is why we should NEVER listen to Sales Kids.
& thirdly, NEVER take his first offer, ask for 15,000 off.

to tell you how bad dealer sales are, in general, about 15 years ago I tried my hand at car sales at a BIG Ford Twin Cities dealership. I was only there 4 months because of middle management. A lady came in wanting an Explorer, after listening to her I advised her to check out a all-wheel drive Chy T and C-met her needs better. Sales mgr livid I let her walk. 3 weeks later I sold 3 Explorers to her neighbors of her small WI town, that they came 50 miles to deal with an honest car salesman.

Last straw was when we had a used car on the lot, it was a good deal and a good car but had sat awhile. Told the customer it had been, he said he'd like to hold it, I said ok since it wasn't selling anyway, got a check from him to hold it, then took it up to the sales mgr. He said that isn't a sale a grabbed it and started schmoozing the customer and telling him it hadn't been on the lot long, lots of people looking at that "loss leader" to which I almost had to leave. The customer took his check back and walked, and I got yelled at for not being able to close a sale. I told him on the floor to stick it, that he was a liar and an unqualified person to be a manager for his ability to be stupid and abusive at the same time. I walked out the door that day to salvage the rest of my Holiday weekend. LOL!!! what a hole that I'll never forget. Mark

When I purchased my '05 in Texas, the saleskid knew nothing about the car, and in fact told me the cupholder was for my cell phone That dealer is now on the closure list, which is a shame, because they had an outstanding service department, to include the service writers who were there for many years.

In Mar I purchased an '09 VW CC from a salesman! He was young, but he knew his product. Yesterday, we returned to the dealership and purchased an '09 VW Passat Sportwagon for my wife, from the same salesman. My wife did the questioning about the car and he responded in the same manner as he did with me,(unlike some who talk down to the "little woman") and he spent over 45 minutes going over the car with her, and showing her all the electronics, and various functions. He knew the product, and was able to answer all of her questions. Helped restore my faith in sales people.

i'm a car salesman(kid). although thats a stupid thing to say. i'm 24 and educated. if i wasn't into crossfires i wouldn't care to learn anthing about this car since if i'm lucky i'll sell 2 a year and most people that come in to buy them already know everything about them. why would i waste my time learning all the little things about it? i have bigger fish to fry. ask me to go over a caravan or town and country with you and i'll show u 57 secret compartments and 30 cupholders it has

well the mark of a true salesman knows all his products maybe you'd sale more than 2 a year if you knew more information about the less popular cars. I would make a terrible salesman because I'd be honest with them.
