Replace battery on '05...Almost 5 years, but little mileage...
Replace battery on '05...Almost 5 years, but little mileage...
Hello, Everyone--
My '05 was built in '04. Many on the forum have stated that the battery should be replaced every 5 years or so. My '05 has obviously seen a lot of quiet garage time for it only has 3,300K on the Odo. Should I still replace the battery? ....I don't drive it very often. Maybe once a week. Will such inactivity drain the battery?
Thanks,
Monty

I have found a great little item - the "Battery Bug" It monitors voltage and shows remaining battery life (%) - may be a good alternative.

No horror story at all.
After replacing the battery your BAS/ESP light on the dash will be on.
Simply start the car and turn the steering all the way to the left and then the right to reset it. Some say the radio stations need reset although my presets were not lost. Only other thing needed is to reset your clock.
My opinion is to change a battery every 5 years and if ya have an '05 model the battery was most likely put into the car new nearly 5 years ago.
Here was my post form my recent battery change which I did as a preventive maintenance measure.......

Just to be the voice of reason (or maybe just a PITA), I'd take it to an Autozone first and have it checked out. Just cause it's old, doesn't mean it's no good. (That's what I tell my wife all the time.) These cars are expensive enough without replacing a battery for no reason. If you leave it idle for extended times, invest in a float charger (I suspect the "bug" thing mentioned above is one). You can get them through Harbor Freight for about $6 each or at Batteries+ for about $20-30/each. Obvioulsy it's cheaper to buy a couple from HF. I have had zero problems with the battery on my roadster and have had the car since April 05. I also bought a 2003 Audi A6 the month before that and it still has the OEM battery.

In my experience, the battery is fine, until it isn't. Left work a couple of weeks ago at noon to help the daughter get ready for the prom. Battery dead, with no warning. Had it jumped, drove to Advanced Auto, had them test it, and then replace it. Cost about $100.00. Play roulette if you like, or replace it now before it "surprises" you like mine did, especially since the recommendation is 5 years and that's when our '05's were built.
