My new Crossfire is not up to my M-Roadster, what can we do?
 My new Crossfire (Red, 6-speed) rides and looks better than my M-Roadster (98-Imola Red, 5-speed) but does not have the get up and go, nor does it shift as well.
I definitely want more in first and second gear. Has anyone added the Renntech pipes or chips or other Enhancements?? Any help is appreciated.
Thanks, Paul

M roadsters and Crossfires
The M roadster and Crossfires are two completely different animals. One is a performance sports car, the other a sporty luxo coupe. I don't know that you can spend enough money to make the Crossfire perform like the M roadster.
If you want to make the Crossfire go faster, and CHEAPLY, do to it what Lotus is doing to the Elise...pull OUT anything that does not make it go faster to reduce weight...all the electric motors and gizmos. The Elise is projected to have about 25 hp less than the Crossfire...but a good second or more faster to 60 and pulling a full G. It's all weight...
The Crossfire does what it does very well, but it's no M...

You can drop 20 grand tomorrow and you will have a 400+ hp Crossfire, that will be faster than pretty much anything that stops next to you at the stop light, and handle better then pretty much any production car out there. If you want to spend that kind of money of course. Thats true of a lot of cars though. Hopefully in a few months or so, cheaper enhancements will come out. I would be happy if my Crossfire could have 250 hp. 215 hp to me, sounds kind of wimpy. I tell people about the Crossfire that don't know about it and I mention the 215 hp, and no one is impressed with that number. 250 hp on the other hand isn't bad at all. I just hope I can do it for under or around 3-4 thousand.
Sorry to hear that you are not happy with the accell. Did you drive it before buying??
As far as I'm concerned, there is plenty of pick-up for me. If I wanted more HP I would have bought another car (knowing it only has 215 before I bought.) However, I still think it has great pick up for city driving and always have fun when I take it out on the road.
Let us know if you find an inexpensive way to upgrade.

Thanks, I did drive before I purchased it. It took some time to get the feel (new car and all). I want to get the HP to 250 or 275. The aftermarket pipes will add 49hp putting it at 264hp. Enough for me. I went to the Renntech home page but did not find anything on the Crossfire, not sure if the link here in the forum to that site is real or not??? Can you install the pipes with out doing anything else?

I don't know where you're getting your numbers from, but the exhaust certainly doesn't add 49 hp. A Renntech exhaust, or one from any manufacturer right now doesn't even exist for the Crossfire. To get 47 extra hp you would need to get the Renntech 3.8 L Torque Conversion package which is 10 grand, and includes an ECU upgrade, I believe. You can get the ECU separately for $995.00. It adds 10 hp and 12 ft.-lbs of torque.

Its ok. It was probably me who posted that. Renntech originally said that al of their mods from the SLK would work, but only internal engine specific mods will work right now. They need to change the design of the airbox and exhaust to fit the different shape of the Crossfire. They have indicated to me that it was in the works.
I put an "SS" and racing stripe on my 300M and it helped.
I noted in recent "Automobile" mag I got that MB is putting a bigger engine than the 215 hp one in the SLK chassis soon. And an AMG motor may also be available with maybe 400 hp. Can this all mean that a bigger motor may be coming for the next iteration of the Crossfire? Inquiring minds want to know. Will be interesting to see what happens.

Hate to bum you all out but you won't find any cheap mods for this engine. If you have some money to drop in it get a Kleemann Kompressor for it. With that you will have no problem taking the M-Coupe. As far as exhaust, I recommend an Eisenmann sport catalytic converter for less back pressure and also a free flowing exhaust. I highly don't recommend K&N filters as the oil on them has messed up mine and many of my friend's Mercedes' air mass meter. (600 dollar fix)

edit: maybe i can convince mightyjlr to work on putting together a sport cat setup..
All you have to do is wait 'till next summer. The aftermarket companies will jump all over this car over the next year. Pretty soon you'll be able to find plenty of performance parts for your toy. I'm sure you'll be able to find a supercharger kit specifically for the crossfire from Vortec or some other performance company for aprox. $4,000. Run low boost for reliability. Add any aftermarket cat-back exhaust. It doesn't matter witch one... The performance value of one from the other is nominal. The supercharger kit will come with a tuned computer chip or ECU, and a free-flowing air intake. With some other minor tweeks (plugs, wires, headers, etc.), you'll blow away an old M3. Come to think of it, you'll probably be able to keep up with most vetts. All for about $6,000. At least that's what I plan to do with my Crossfire... When I get one.
Thnaks Danmc77 and the others. I've been in touch with Kleemann, they have a supercharger kit they will install with installation about $10,800 in round numbers. The supercharger will provide about 330 HP. I'm waiting at this point for a dino chart from them. Sounds like they have a system to allow the SC to engauge only when needed (higher RMPS).
