Has anyone tried an SRT6 engine in a manual vehicle
Re: Has anyone tried an SRT6 engine in a manual vehicle
it is doable but there is some swapping involved i think the way the bolts line up on the flywheel is different so i think you might need to get it from a different mercedes and have a machine shop make sure it lines up right.
my opinion forget about the srt motor their is no real benefit you will get with the added headache of mating the engine to the transmission and have a bottle neck since the supercharger can only do so much. look at either adding the sts turbo in the rear like some members have done search the thread. You might also be able to get House of power install a supercharger on the stock motor. Maybe drop a v8 in the car instead of the v6 supercharged. If i am not mistaken you get around 400hp on a v8 before boost or any modding.
this is a good idea if you want it to be cost effective. Turbo will give you around 25-35hp per pound of boost and on the stock high compression motor you should be able to run around 7-8lbs of boost. Then once you are tired of being even on races with srt you can pull the motor out and change everything to forged and lower the compression ratio and increase your boost to about 12-14lbs. then when you are bored of beating srt and want to beat cars like the zr1 corvette or vipers then you can get the tvt engine block they are planning to release with 3.8l displacement instead of 3.2 and make even more power.
all you need is money and you can make any car fast.

Re: Has anyone tried an SRT6 engine in a manual vehicle
To many people have harsh words to say of automatics. As the saying goes "this isn't your fathers Oldsmobile" times have changed. The racing industry has discovered that a properly built auto far excedes the abilities of a manual. The new Ferrari F1 shifts at a speed of .083 of a second. When you can shift a manual at that speed we'll talk, but until then. Out of the hole an automatic in comparison to the manual when drivin by "an average driver" will generate approximately equal times. Also remember that THE SRT's TRANSMISSION IS NOT THE SAME as the standard Crossfires. Very performance minded.
I go through rear tires way to fast with the automatic to really want to trade for the manual anyway.

Hey Faiz23, I just read your post and I am affraid you have been slightly mis informed on Boost and SRT's
Your figures of H.P. gains to pounds of boost are off. The stock SRT is getting about 14+ pounds of boost. I am reachinh 23-25 lbs on mine.
Secondly, I have right around 410 h/p at my crank. close to 380 at the rear wheels.
Thirdly the percentage of H.P. loss during transfer to the rear wheels is greater on a V8 than V6. More pistons doesn't always mean more speed.

I do agree that 6 speed manuals are fun and they are more useful with the less powerful engines. With my SRT auto when ever going for time I always choose to manually shift it. The benefit that is most aparent is the lack of that old fashioned third pedal. Shifting at the speed required shortens the life of a clutch in a hurry.

please educate me since i am still learning the drawback of turbo versus s/c i know s/c gives you tons of power down low but turbo is more on the top end once it spools up.
i know the srt run like 16-20lbs safely and some have stacked pullies to even get a higher boost. I was talking about 25h-35hp when you are using a turbo but you are right i might have been misinformed. I figured around a 15%-20% power loss to the wheels and the way i figured this is i think n/a crossfire does like 215hp but only like 175 rwhp. that is pretty good that you have 380 rwhp and 410hp at the crank some impressive numbers and hopefully with help of turbo or supercharger we N/A guys can get there.

Curiuos what feedback the ecu needs from the auto trans to operate.
In other applications I've seen diff fuel maps for idle vs driving.. in a manual conversion of that nature, you simply hardwire the gear shift lever to operate in drive when necessary. Anyone willing to disconnect the connection of the trans and ecu to see? If only a transmission light comes on and vehicle still runs.. there might be hope?!?!

hey hey hey now nothing wrong with the guy owning a stick and the lady owning a srt. it is an easy way to justify the purchase of an srt so you can drive that and hopefully teach the lady how to learn a manual and after some time you can drive the srt permanently. This was my thinking in the start getting my lady a srt but in my opinion only having 2 cars and both being a 2 seater is not a smart choice. so now i am looking at a different car. Well actually a SUV V8 twin turbo and does 0-60 in under 5 sec.
Engine: twin-turbo, twin-intercooler, 32-valve quad-cam 4.5-liter V8 (4,511 cc)
0-60 MPH: 4.8 seconds; 0 - 100 Km/h 5.2 seconds
Top Speed: 167 MPH
Horsepower: 521 at 5,500 rpm (383 kW)
Torque: 531 ft-lbs at 2,750 - 3,750 rpm (720 N-m)
Compression Ratio: 9.5:1
Transmission: Six-speed automatic with Tiptronic
now if i can wait a year or two i can have that for around $25,000-$30,000
