Default Headlight Burnout Help!!!

After purchasing an 04 coupe my wife noticed that the headlight was burnt out. I replaced the bulbs which was a pita itself. Shortly after replacing them one headlight burnT out so I thought maybe just a bad bulb. I replaced it then the other one burnt out and now it seems that they just keep doing that. I do know how to change them and I havent touched them or let them touch anything before putting them in so thats not it. They seem to be ok for a few weeks then boom. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions before i take it to the stealership?? Thanks all.

I have not ever heard of this issue, and the first thing I was going to ask is if they had been touched, but you already addressed that....

Is there any moisture in the headlight assembly??
Is the rubber 'dust cap' fitting on snug over the assembly in the rear??

Just brainstorming.....

Put a volt gauge/amp gauge on your car and drive it around. It could be the voltage regulator in the alternator is over charging the system and burning them out. It has been known to happen but I haven't heard of it on a Crossfire. I lost 2 sets on a Hyundai from that.

Everything is tight and sealed well.No moisture in the headlights either. I will give the voltmeter a try and see. Thanks guys. I'll keep at it.

I'd be curious as to the brand of bulbs you are using...they are not all born equal.

I believe they were silverstars. Bought them at Canadian Tire.

Had a chance so I took out the two drivers side bulbs that were burnt and one of them was melted! I mean the glass literaly overheated and melted from the inside out. I have never seen that before. I figure now that it must be a voltage issue.

If the glass melted then it is a pretty safe bet that it was touched or was not clean to begin with. That is what happens to quartz bulbs with even the slightest amount of oil on it from your skin.
Also, I had to quit selling and installing the SilverStar lamps. They were brighter, but the trade off was a lot shorter life.

I usually wipe them down with alcohol before I install them. But now you have me wondering. This isn't the first time this happened and I know I am carefull. I installed the new bulbs in my G35 myself and never had any issues. BTW you guys have no idea what a PITA installing a bulb is untill you try the G. I mean you have to remove the wheel and inner cover and damn what a pain.I guess I will try a different brand of bulb and see what happens. Thanks for the help.

I would try a different brand of bulb and do not attempt an alcohol wipe down, just simply be very careful to not touch the bulb at any point, you never know when a microscopic particle will get caught on the rag you are using or something....

I had one burn out on me. Got the oem replacement bulb from Chrysler cost me $25.00. I would stay away from the Silverstars. My son put them in his 4runner. They didn't last two months.
