Default Oil Weep/Leak

I was looking at my engine area yesterday and noticed below the oil filler- a gummy and slightly damp area directly below the oil filler.

I know that it could have been from an oil change issue- but that was almost 6K miles ago- the area is sticky with oil residue and slightly damp.

Any ideas/suggestions? 22K miles on the car still under warranty.

Thanks in advance.

Don

I have attached a couple of pics- one is the general location, and the other 2 are close ups.

yep, those are the valve covers.. take off your engine cover and you'll be able to see it.. chances are they are leaking on both sides..several others including myself have had this issue.. fixed under warranty..

Appears to be a common problem, especially driver's side. I just had mine fixed under warranty.

Excellent- I always tell my friends and my wife (who is more than a friend ha!) that to drive a Xfire without the friends and fellow Xfire drivers on this forum sharing their experiences would be like driving without a license!

Thanks again to all!

Does this valve cover leakage fall under the conditions of the PowerTrain Warranty? I think I may have the same problem and would like to know if I am covered.

Thanks!

it should.. it's part of the engine?? it's an easy DIY fix as well if not.. but it's much easier IMO to just take it to the dealer and let them do it.. they cleaned up my engine real good after they fixed it as well (your mileage may vary)

it's hard to see with the engine cover on.. i'm sure many many crossfires are leaking but have gone unnoticed, if you take the engine cover off it's as plain as sunlight

What type of oil filter was installed on your last oil change? I know for a fact that if it was an STP or Purolator that the O-rings in the kits are too thin & IT WILL LEAK!!!!

pull off airbox/engine cover, slide tubes out and lift up cover and it will pop out of the push in grommets, both will most likely be leaking, take into dealer and get new valve covers under warranty

Check your crankcase vent hoses. That could be the root of the mysterious oil weep/leak. I've had this problem for months and finally found ref to the Crankcase vent hose. If not working properly, to my understanding the oil has to go some place via the weakest leak. Normally the weakest leak is the valve cover gasket.

Took it to my dealer, it is the valve cover gaskets leaking, they are overnighting the gaskets pick up the Xfire tomorrow.

Fix under warranty and no questions asked!

Lake Norman Chrysler near Charlotte NC is a good dealer, I have never had an issue with a repair that needed to be done under warranty.

Thanks again to all for your help.

Don
