Default A sign that you didn't want THAT Crossfire!!!

Hello, Everyone--

Hope all is well in your neck of the woods.

As a new XF owner, I am relieved that I found the exact one that I wanted. As you may or may not know, my search lasted for about a year. My '05 Limited is currently sitting in the garage, freshly washed / waxed and under a soft car cover. Can't wait for the weekend!

Now on to my point. Question: During YOUR search for a XF, can you recall anything that turned you off to a possible sale?

Okay, I get things started.......Now, I know this may seem minor, but if the cargo netting on the tunnel was ripped to pieces, then I wasn't interested. I had seen dozens of beautiful XFs on AutoTrader, but I constantly found myself zeroing in on a picture of the ratty ripped up netting....Fortunately, the netting in my '05 is virtually brand new and looks as if it was never used, but then again the average annual mileage is recorded as 736 miles...Perhaps the previous owner wasn't in the car long enough to even notice the netting!

The first crossfire I test drove was a black base coupe (what I wanted). I didn't start it properly the first time.... went to start it again and there was a pop sound. When I got it started it was idling rough. They kept hounding me and tried to sell the car to me. They told me the problem was fixed and it was a vacum line. At that point I didn't care because that problem turned me off. I thought it was a sign not to buy that particular car.

There was another black SRT-6 roadster on the lot where I bought mine. It had a few higher miles and fogged headlamps for the same price as the one I bought. My decision was a no brainer.

Although there was some confetti sparkles in the trunk in mine which made me think that a female might have been driving it it to take her kids to b-day parties.

My 04 Crossfire was purchased from a very good friend of mine... the car was and is in excellent condition, nothing worn, nothing torn, all the netting is in excellent, like new condition! I was fortunate to get my beauty from my "Bestus Goooood Friend" LOL. Ahhh it is great to have good friends, he knew I really wanted the car and kept coming down in price until I said SOLD!!!! Love, love, love my Crossfire!

When I saw the first crossfire add on TV, I knew I had to get one. I went to the dealer the next morning and gave him a deposit for the very first crossfire he get's in. I did not care about the color (only one option was available). I have not looked back since

I have never done this with any product I bought before, always did a lot of research before spending my precious money.

eeric, I wasn't aware you bought one of the first Xfires in Dallas. I look forward to meeting up with you at TMS on Saturday and hearing the story.

I bought my '05 in Dallas (sale date was sometime in Aug 2005). This August will be my 4 year anniversary. I am now living in San Antonio but I try to get back to Dallas as often as I can

I'll give you a perfect example. I have been searching for an SRT-6 black roadster. I am purchasing a forum member's car from Texas. In the search I came across this car on a lot in Defiance, OH.

http://integrity-family.com/AllVehic...odel=Crossfire

In looking at the pictures, I came across these two. While the car may be otherwise perfect, it just turned me off to the point I did not pursue the car any further. Why wouldn't they clean that up before taking pictures for the web site?

I looked at a good 15+ XF's in person before I found "the one." It was a frustrating journey, and I think the biggest turn off (besides dealing with the salesmen) was peeling interior door handles. Almost every XF I sat in, coupe and roadster alike, had the same peeling/slice your hand open problem. I finally found my perfect car in LA, only about an hour away. Door handles were perfect, as well as everything else!

When I was looking for mine one year ago, I wanted a stick and there were none to be found in the OKC area. Found one in Topeka, KS that the dealer SWORE was in perfect condition. So we drove 4.5 hrs one way to look at it. Seeing it from across the lot it looked pretty good, but as I got closer something didn't seem right. I was walking around it noticing all the scratches and dings and chips when it hit me - the front end was pointing down ever so slightly more than normal. The poor thing had been in an accident! I told the sales guy that if he gets someone to drive that far to look at a car, he'd better make sure that it is as good as he says. Went inside and gave the sales manger a piece of my mind, too. Turned around and drove home after 15 min. The next morning we drove to Bonham, TX and bought my baby! I guess sometimes it's just meant to be.

It took me about a year to finally decide.

I drove SRT6's, special editions, limiteds, but never a coupe because I knew I wanted a roadster. THe best looking roadster out there.

First red Xfire I drove had the rear window separation issues, and I knew that relationship wasn't happening,

Next the silver blue SRT which had chewed rims and a little high mileage along with a little interior issues, she pulled at the heart strings but the love just wasnt there.

Next a black beauty, oh she was sweet but with a small ding on the drivers side and some minor cosmetic issues not to mention the cedar interior.... I wasn't feeling it...

and then she called me, my beautiful baby (yes my wife) that was her on the phone interrupting the other call from my beautiful silver/blue glistening xfire with one of the best looking rear ends you can ever see! I was sold. We took a drive up the street and those 6 cylinders were calling my name... Naaaate Naaaaaaaate Naaaaaaateeeeee Nateee eeee eeeeeeeee. Until I pulled into the dealer and said I think thats my girl! And that was all she wrote!

When I started looking for my Limited coupe, I looked at many, and found an alabaster at a dealer in Fairfax, VA. It was a bit of a drive from where I lived, and had mostly been in E-Mail contact with the salesman. Finally decided to make the trip, deposit in hand hoping to drive it home. Get there; it looks great. Start it up and it didnt start all too smoothly and had a raspy knock/ticking sound. When I inquired about what was up with the engine note, He responds by going thru the whole Benz ancestry thing (that I already knew like a book) and explains the noise by saying that is from the Kompressor Engine. Yeah, Okay. It was a hostile car ride back home.

It took me a little over a year to find my baby. When I started looking I still worked for a DCJ dealership and could get a great deal, but we dealt most in disclosure units - something I really didn't want. Plus most of those were double punched .... I actually took a ride out to Lake Wales to see car #15 - about 1.5 hrs from home, after a long day of approving car loans. Now I knew that this wasn't really the car I wanted - wrong color, wrong interior, but I had been looking for so long that maybe it was time for me to get color blind. This was a private seller & I could tell he loved the car. He didn't love me .... might have had something to do with me asking him when his precious baby had been in a car accident. This man had owned the vehicle for 5 months & put 300 miles on it (he had bad knees & it was hard for him to get in & out of it) & here I come walking up telling him about an accident!! The nerve of me ... of course it had obvious orange peel & over spray. I did the math on fixing it correctly & made him an offer that he obviously COULD refuse. I had driven all that way because the man said he was ready to DEAL!! He did offer to drop his price by $200. I drove away. The day after I drove my new car home he called me to accept my offer (I paid $2K less for my current car) and 3 months later it was still for sale for $4k less than what I offered him for the car.

BTW - the car had a clean CARFAX!

I bought it in Bloomington, Illinois. I just moved here to Dallas last September.

If I remember correctly you are far from a "spoiled kid" you worked for that car helping pay for it-good for you. That said...."Can I become a sibling? Please" My first car was a VW Bug semi automatic with a leaking sun roof for $600. Which now would be a Great deal. Ran until I sold it, many years.
As far as our XF purchase:
Sunday night the husband said "guess you should look around for a XF" (silly man look to me is BUY, but he already knew that) Monday at 8:30 am found the car, by Thursday it was in our driveway

After owning PT Cruisers for the last seven years I was tready for something new and exciting. Started looking at XFires on AutoTrader and spotted two that caught my eye. One was in Amarillo, Tx. the other was in Purcell,Ok. I decided to take the 45min. drive to Purcell just to see if I could even fit my 6'2" 250Lb. body into one. Took a test drive and a few haggles later me and my '07 SSB 6 Speed Limited were on the way home. Oh, by the way, the one in Amarillo was an SRT-6 (DOH!) If I had only done a little more research first, but I love my Bridgette and I do love manual trannys.

Mine was a simple process. I had gotten a trade from a friend on a 98 Eldorado with only 80K on it in 2008, so 8k a year and the car was really clean, not a mark on it. But I had no passion for the Eldorado. fine car, just not inspiring. So I'm thinking a Mustang, maybe a Challenger. So I go to the Chrysler dealer, sit in the new Challenger, not overly impressed. Looked at a Mustang, thousands of them out there and in my opinion overpriced. Saw one 2006 GT in the color I wanted, Shelby spoiler, leather and 9K on the clock but they want 21K for it-not.

Anyway, I see this SSB Cross coupe on the floor, new for 23K, and I'm getting excited really fast. Sit in it, fits like a glove, the trunk is bigger than I thought. Ask the sales guy how they handle in the winter and he says like a pig on skates, talks me out of the car-I get disappointed and leave. Then I talk to a mechanic friend and he says nonsense, good winter tires and the car is stable like a rock. I get excited again.

So I find an Alabaster coupe for 14.9, and an aero blue, same price, the white one has 10.3 on it, the blue 13.5. We had some snows in early December so I'm emailing the sales guy and finally a couple of weeks into December I test drive the white one. Look at the blue one but my head keeps going back to the just white on black one, simple. All the rest of the Crosses there are 4500 more. I'm a bit skeptical why the blue and the white are so much cheaper. Oh well, an hour later and I'm driving off the lot in the white one, and I have not had one hiccup in 5K miles so far.

My story is a bit different.

I had been lusting after the Crossfire since before they were formally introduced and when prices plummeted I knew I was going to have my chance. When I found a dealer on autotrader.com with a selection at great prices I stopped in for a test drive or two. I drove a Sapphire Silver Blue Roadster first but ultimately decided on an Aero Blue Roadster. We work the deal and the car is being prepped while the paper work is being finalized. The salesman comes up to me and says "OK, it's ready but the paperwork is still a few minutes away. If you want to look it over out front, I'll be with you in a couple of minutes". So I go out front and I'm standing next to a SSB Roadster figuring the salesman is going to bring mine around. A few minutes later he walks up to me and says "So, what do you think?".

I say "What do I think about what?".

"What do you think about your new car, of course!"

"Well, I don't know, I haven't seen it yet"

"Whaddya mean? This is it!" he replies, pointing to the SSB Roadster.

"Uh, that's not my car" I say, "mine is supposed to Aero Blue. You guys prepped the wrong car!"

Apologies from the sales manager followed, along with confirmation that the paperwork had the right VIN on it, etc. And because I was now being forced to wait even longer, they bought me lunch.

But I got the car I wanted and I love it.

Typical car salesman. Give you the wrong thing and hope you bite and take it! They are so predictable!
