Okay, so I call my local Chrysler dealership (the second call, actually, after the local Mercedes dealership informed me that they don't service Crossfires) to schedule an oil change. The service clerk taking my call quotes the price of $38. I then inform her that I would like synthetic oil used and the new quote was $67....Based on what's been tossed around the forum, I realize that this price is a bit low. Any thoughts on why the low price would be appreciated. My first oil change since I bought the car is scheduled for this Thursday.

Your crossfire oil change should be around 150 to 200 dollars.

If I were you i'd get the price quote written BEFORE you take it in there, because they will up the price after its performed.

Let us know what happens.

 

Yeah - they are quoting 5 qts - they do not know it takes 8.5 (pay for 9)

But $150 to $200 is just insane. My local dealer chages about $100, but I do my own.

Figure they charge $7 a qt, $20 filter, $15 install. quotes ~$70 + $28 for the missed 4 qts.
Just a guess but I bet thats what happened. Otherwise take them up on it! Ant preschedule the next 10 or so changes at the same price.

 

That quote was probably for 5 quarts. They probably don't know the Xfire takes 81/2 quarts and a different filter.

 

Maybe they do not know how much oil it takes?

 

My Mercedes dealership works on Crossfires.

 

Just had my oil changed was $120.00 at the Car Wash... Jiffy Lube

 

Avis Lube charges me $90.00.

 

Costs me $76, but that is because I pump the local biz mutual back scratching angle.
Otherwise it would be $30 more.

 

My dealer never charges more than $100.

 

Very simple..she made a mistake.

 

Where are you getting these filters for JUST $20.00, I'll go buy a case.

 

My dealer chargess $120. The last time I took it in they made sure I was aware of the charge before they did the work. I guess they've had some customers upset over the cost after the work was done.

Wow - the prices are all over the place, probably the service too. like others have said probably quoted for the wrong amount of oil which makes me wonder if the service dept. knows the right amount of oil and what kind it takes. Lets hope it was the person on the phone who was mistaken.
My first oil change was 120$, the second 160$. That was 2 years ago. Last year I did my own for a bit under 70$ including the filter which I picked up at a Mercedes dealer. Its very easy to do it yourself and then you are sure its done correctly. It also saves you money for those mods I'm sure you want to do. You can either use the topsider method where you don't even have to get under the car or you can do it the old fashion way and drain it at the drain plug. That requires jacking up the front driver's side of the car, remove the cover, 4 or 5 small screws and then the drain plug is on the passenger side. Get a bucket and a funnel. Collect the oil and pour it back in th empty containers from you new oil and dispose at a gas station that accepts used oil. The filter comes with No Brainer istructions. It really isn't hard.

 

i got a coupon in the mail from the dealer for a $17.95 oil change. fine print says some models slightly higher. i called them and told them up front that my model would be sightly higher but how much higher. the service guy pulled my record and said, "oh yeah, the crossfire is a lot higher. i'll do it for $70 with the coupon". $70 plus tax wasn't bad.

 

While I agree with others that the price quoted probably does not account for the higher than normal volume of oil required for the Crossfire, it should be noted that dealer prices are all over the place on a wide variety of services.

Last year I had the auto trans fluid/filter replaced in one of my other cars. I called various dealers and was quoted anywhere between $240 and $450 for the same job. Just as different painters, carpenters, lawyers, etc charge different rates, so do dealers.

 

I picked up my last fleese oil filter at the local Mercedes dealer for $19.99. They said an oil change would be $89.99. That was last year. They would also be willing to work on things they could fix.

 

I wished my local Benz dealer worked on crossfire. The service guy was rather rude to boot when I asked him.
