New XFire owner and very happy
Hello all, I have (obviously) just signed up as a member here, but I have been following a number of the threads here as a guest ever since I bought my black base 06 late last year. It was quite a set of unusual circumstances that led me to ending up with this wonderful ride. I initially brought home an '00 Mustang GT with only 17k on the odometer... I was very pleased with my purchase. Well, until 3 days later when the transmission blew up! I towed the thing back to the dealership and told them that he could keep the keys. This left me with a sports car craving and nothing to show for it. I went through their online car database (carmax) and settled for a 2006 Cobalt SS S/C. The car was in AZ and I am in GA, but they agreed to waive the transfer fee on account of the Mustang's transmission. Up until this point I was under the impression that it would arrive there at the dealership within 14 days. On my way out the door, my buddy that had rode over there to pick me up pointed out the Crossfire, which was my first time really ever noticing one. In the next two weeks, I began doing a little more research on what other options were out there. After all, I wasn't the one footing the bill for the Cobalt being transferred. In this time, I learned of what seems to be a dark secret; all that mercedes underneath the hood of a chrysler! 'How is it that EVERYONE and their mother doesn't know this??', I thought to myself. Two weeks had come and gone and the Cobalt had not even shipped. I called carmax's customer service who informed me that from AZ it takes on average 28 days to ship a car to GA! Wow, I really wish someone had told me this sooner! I decided that day that I would go test drive one of the Crossfires on the lot and if I liked it, I was ready to take one home instead. I was definitely not dissappointed by that first test drive, and I have yet to be dissappointed in the 6 months I have been driving it.
Thanks largely to these forums, I was able to get rid of the pesky hatch rattle (used two small strips of weatherstripping to meet the rubber stoppers, and a few winds of electrical tape around the metal latch) and replace the headlamps myself instead paying $45 in labor PER HEADLIGHT for carmax to do it.
I know this is a bit long winded, but I would like to finishwith this: I, like many other owners out there would like to have more power. If the sales guy had said "You know, for $1500 more, we can bump up your 215 hp to 265 hp, I wouldn't have thought twice about financing that in there with the rest of it! Luckily, the possibility is there for us to do that after we leave the lot, and I plan to do some upgrades a bit further down the road.
All that it takes to be completely blown away at what an amazing car this thing really is requires a bit of perspective: Drive something else for a few days that costs as much or less than these rides. Suddenly, you will notice how everything else doesn't ride or drive as smooth, or feel so tight in a turn. There are so many other really great things that can be noticed this way that simply go unnoticed when driving the crossfire every day.

Re: New XFire owner and very happy
Thanks for the warm welcome, fellahs. Although I don't feel quite as new as my recent sign up is. I certainly did benefit heavily from the crossfire's lack of popularity. I had no idea I was going to be getting in to such a nice vehicle when I started looking at replacing my old car. Thinking that idea out a little further, it will be difficult to find something as nice without spending a good deal more money, or getting a much higher mileage and/or older vehicle. This leaves me wondering what to do after my 5 year extended warranty runs its course...
