Default I can't drive with a cell in my hand...

I think a good case can be made for phones being safe to use if the driver comes with a brain to begin with... I'm guessing the same people who can't handle driving and hands-free at the same time probably can't handle driving to begin with. Do we need to have a rule that we can't talk to passengers, eat, listen to music, gaze at the scenery, etc.? For some that I have seen behind the wheel, I would say "Yes!".

For me, having a phone in my hand and holding it against my head is a pain and definitely creates a distraction. Both the vehicles I drive are sticks. I can't drive with one hand all the time. I have to shift. I signal. I steer. One hand doesn't cut it. I used to hate being called on the cell before hands-free. I didn't answer it because it definitely interfered with my driving.

With my hands free I can steer, signal, shift, wave (number of fingers optional), etc. In my current vehicles, the head unit automatically mutes the tunes when a call comes in so I don't have to fumble with that.

I don't agree with the study that hands-free makes no difference. Like a lot of statistics that get quoted, they don't usually come with all the facts. I just don't think valid conclusions can be drawn without understanding the conditions of the test, and the basic abilities of the drivers involved.

All I know is that for me, having the phone out of my hands makes a huge difference. Using automation and consolidation of the one control (answer/volume/hang-up) with the same **** I use for everything else makes a huge difference - I don't have to take my eyes off the road to deal with anything. A quick stab and I have answered, ignored or hung up a call. In my vehicles, I still avoid placing calls while moving and sometimes don't answer incoming calls. Something about dialing a 10-digit number on a keypad the size of a bottle cap... I have been known to "dial" in my wife's Jeep Commander - "Lola" (the voice command assistant) lets me say the number and have it confirmed and then dialed automatically...

Hey - let's have a rant about all the newbie GPS users running around with their giant-screen GPS units stuck to the middle of the windshield!

Once again, let me apologize for starting the cell-bashing. I took this thread off track and am alone to blame.

But, if you happen to touch bumpers with me, and you are using ANY form of cell phone, using it as evidence in the lawsuit will be a messy, disgusting job. But I will.

Ok, you wanted some pics...here they are. I had this setup for about 10 minutes but took it down because of all the clutter. Besides, I'd rather hear the exhaust note rather than music or someone chattering on the phone.

I can see why you took them down. I had something like that for about 10 minutes too. I guess what I have now is just as cluttered but all I can say is the install uses professional components and leaves the center fascia controls visible and accessible for use.

I agree, your setup is much cleaner and at least you have access to your AC. Our cockpits unfortunately don't leave much room to add extra components.

Nice fabrication! And the paint job really replicates the commercially available brackets. Hows the paint holding up? I also considered this location a while back while looking around my dash although due to the vertical size of the iPhone it wouldn't lend itself well as yours does. I really wish that Pro.Fit offered the G3 mounts for our cars! When I contacted them they said that "I checked with the designer and since the vehicle was discontinued in 07 we will not be developing a mount for this vehicle. But, you may want to consider the universal G3." I corrected them on the last year of our cars firstly and knew that if I had access to all of their options I could find one that would work, but they couldn't help with one that would fit made for another car. I'm still not happy with mine. And as always, I'll keep buying/looking until it's the cleanest it can be.

Thanks. Have a few more questions/concerns on the Kuda. Although they appear extremely well made and love they have the matching slate grey leather (not sure what color you got, but how well does it match?)

1.It seems a bit cumbersome. And since our cockpit is so crammed as is I'd think the passenger would rest their knee on Kuda. 2. How does whichever cradle you choose, for me it would be my proclip, mount to the kuda? Standard hole pattern or only with their add-on's? 3. Was it worth the $? 4. I worry the viewing angle is low so it becomes unsafe since you have to look essentially toward the floor.

It's the same location as ProClips but has a much nicer installed look. Which I think might be the best since it doesn't obstruct any controls?

I bought mine from the e-bay seller, but made him an offer. This model is made for the Crossfire. You also have to buy the cradle, depending on the type of phone/BB you have. They are adjustable, and you can secure them with screws or two sided 3M tape. I used the 3M tape.

Wait, so all the Kuda does is provide a flat place to mount? So you still have to screw into the Kuda or use mounting tape?? What's the point of that..lol

Yes, the Kuda comes in two parts, (sold separately) the mount is cosmetic, and depending on your PDA, you buy the holster for it. The hardware holster is about $11.

Most mounts are two or three piece affairs. One part that is car-specific, for obvious reasons. One part that is phone specific (for obvious reasons). And then if the owner wants, a swivel head or other appliance to make the whole thing removable (for different drivers with different phones).

This gives the manufacturer the ability to simplify their offerings. There are some standard bolt patterns in common use (the "AMP" pattern being one example).

I like the Kuda. But I did the math and decided I didn't really need it that bad, especially since my phone couples and after that is pretty much out of the picture - it can be anywhere so I just stash it.

If I was going to buy a phone mount for the Crossfire, the Kuda would be the one (an extra premium for the dark slate...)

Yeh, of the many options I've tried in all my past vehicles I'd know that mounts are 2 pieces for vehicle specific applications. The part that threw me off with the Kuda is there aren't even mounting holes/pattern. Why wouldn't someone looking at these just stick their holder to their console. I do understand them, don't get me wrong. Just don't see why they make these nice expensive leather Kudas and use mounting tape to secure the holder which is NOT permanent and will come loose with use.

I'm not defending it. To each there own. It works for me, but you do have the choice to screw it on. I chose not to as I have industrial strength tape. It's been on there for almost two years and hasn't moved.

Yes, although they appear like any other genaric they are excellent quality! Had one in my last car coupled with the PanaVise. I couldn't believe after the four years I had it the foam never flakes or rotted!! And I slid my phone in and out of that holder multiple times a day. Highly recommended!

Yes, I am STILL in search of something more tactile. And, well, the only solution is custom fabricating which I am capable of. But the reason I've been holding off is I'm unsure of the location I'd like to put it. The most convienient location as for usability would be an obstruction to the 6spd, hence the reason its there. This location like billangiep could work, but since the iphone wit the added cable out the bottom is quite long its going to get in the way of my knee and/or the ignition. I almost want to take away the mount all together and just pick up the phone with the cable attached! But that expensive dock I bought already is so damn easy to drop in the phone every time I get in my car (I always hook up to my headunit for music).
