Default Battery Dead.

Hey, this is my first post and I need help on a stupid mistake I made.

I have a 04 Crossfire which I put away this winter. I did not take the battery out although recommended by some. The problem is the car is now locked and the battery is dead. I cannot get in the car or have the ability to open the hood so I can boost it. Does anyone know of a way that I can get the hood open?

I feel like an Idiot!!

Talking Re: Battery Dead.

When storing any battery you need to have a battery tender added to keep the cells up. This prevents altzhihers in the cells called sulphating. For that reason I always use battery TENDERS NOT BATTERY CHARGERS. You dont eat the tenders and in turn they dont eat the battery with over charging, just a float charge.

I was losing all the mower batterys and 4 wheelers in a couple of years, started this and no more batteries to date. That is something and the cost savings are fantastic. Walmart has then for less than 20$.............

Charged up and ready for the spring WOODY

If you live within striking distance of a Harbor Freight store, they sell one for $5.99 that has worked well on my mower battery for several years. I just hook it up when I figure I've mowed the last time and let it set until spring, and it cranks up. Don't forget the gas stabilizer, too.

And the washer fluid should be rated for the area you live in, -40 in the tank is the way to go,as you have to remove the passenger side wing to replace it,if it freezes and cracks

CYA. Based on what I am seeing on this post everything looks pretty tame compared to some other post replies.

Some people find it easy to be nasty at the keyboard, face to face they may lack a little spirit shall we say. I like a little dry humor, goes over the heads of some who read an insult into every line.
A little act of kindness by Waynesworld today and that is a good thing.

Default Battery Dead.

I cannot be certain what the intent of the remark was that onehundred80 made. It appears to be criticizing Waynesworld's response. Unless asked to respond to a particular conversation you might try biting your tongue before being so critical of others.

If I am misunderstanding the post I certainly apologize.

Waynesworld's answer was short, accurate and harmless. It certainly needn't be criticized.

Openly criticizing each other is not needed in this forum. It is about Crossfires and should remain that way. If you just HAVE to do it you might try a private message.

Just had the same thing happen to me... but i had even worse luck when the drivers side lock would not work either. Something is wrong with the lock.. so i was totally locked out. Called AAA and a guy open that door inless then 30 seconds...yes 30 seconds to get into our cars through the window. I was like whao dude I'm glad your on the right side of the law at least today lol.

I thought the waynesworld response was pretty good....short and to the point. I don't think he meant any harm. And the original poster is not an idiot so don't feel embarrased. In today's modern world everything is automatically controlled with a button. When I was younger I needed a key to open every door. Sometimes people forget the basic survival skills! There is still a keyhole in case the car loses power... I know I am guilty of forgetting the simplest things too! Proof that technology is good but there are also bad parts. So don't feel embarrased.

If ya have an 04 model the battery was put in most likely in 03 which makes it over 5 years old now
I just replaced mine in my 04 Coupe with a Interstate MTP-91

Count me in.

I got my disintregating key fob replaced and it quit working about two weeks later. Which left me stranded on the third floor of a lakefront parking garage in a blizzard at 9:30 on a Friday night in downtown Cleveland after the Indian's home opener was snowed out. It took me a couple of panicked minutes to remember that the key would open the door.

Reading this I realized how easy it is to forget the basics in this automated world. A key turned by hand. And a car that allows you to do it manually. I would have done the same thing. I'll remember this post. The crossfire is a great car..period! I am thankful for the valuable information I have received from this excellent forum and it's members.
